October 25, 2004 | Women's Soccer
BOSTON, MA - Terrier junior forward Meghann Cook, who tied a school single-game record with three assists in the Terriers' 7-0 win over Albany on Oct. 22, has been named America East Co-Player of the Week.
She shares the honors with junior Jess Pheifer of Northeastern.
In addition to her record-tying three assists, Cook (Melrose, MA) also added a goal in the victory. The three assists ties a record originally set by Stacy Schwartz against Hofstra on October 28, 1995 and tied by Nicole Soules against Rhode Island on September 19, 1999. With the goal, Cook finished the Albany game with five points, one shy of the school single-game record of six by Schwartz against Hofstra on October 28, 1995, Kara Olivo against Howard on September 30, 1995, and by Deidre Enos against Rhode Island on September 19, 1999.
Cook currently leads the conference in assists-per-game with 0.53 and a total on nine. She is also second in the league in points per game with an average of 1.47 and a total of 25, second behind Vermont's Amy Cochran, who has 1.72 points a game and 31 total points.
This is the second time this season that Cook has been honored with Player of the Week. She was also named for the week of September 7th after scoring two goals and adding an assist as the Terriers defeated the University of Massachusetts, 2-1, and George Mason, 3-2.
For the season, Cook leads the Terriers in both assists with nine and points with 25, while she is tied with junior Melissa Shulman (Huntington, NY) for the lead in goals with eight.
The Terriers are currently third in the America East standings with a 4-2-1 league record, while they are 12-3-2 overall.
The Terriers close out their regular-season this week with a game at Binghamton on Thursday, Oct. 28, and at UMBC on Saturday, Oct. 30. The America East Women's Soccer Tournament begins on November 2.
