BOSTON, MA - Juniors Brooke Bingham and Brittany McDonald head a list of five members of the 2004 Terrier women's soccer team honored with post-season recognition from America East.
In a vote of the Conference's coaches, Bingham (Duxbury, MA) was selected the Conference's Midfielder of the Year, while McDonald (Lindenhurst, NY) was named the Defender of the Year.
The two were also named to the All-Conference First Team, as was junior forward Meghann Cook (Melrose, MA). Junior Susan Marschall (Baton Rouge, LA) was named Honorable Mention, while freshman Nicole Lucey (Keene, NH) was on the All-Rookie Team.
Bingham, who has started every game in her BU career, recorded a goal and an assist for three points this past season to bring her career total to five goals and six assists for 16 points. This marks the second straight year that Bingham was named to the First Team America East All-Star team, while, in 2002, she was on the America East All-Rookie Team.
McDonald, like Bingham, has played in every game since her freshman year for a career total of 52 consecutive games. This season, McDonald was a mainstay in the middle for the defense that allowed only 18 goals in 20 games. In 2003, she was named the America East Defensive Player of the Year, First Team America East All-Star, America East All-Tournament, NSCAA Northeast Region All-Star, Soccer Buzz Magazine First Team All-Northeast Region and America East Commissioner's Honor Roll. In 2002, she was honored as an America East All-Rookie Team selection in addition to America East Academic Honor Roll and the team's Rookie of the Year.
Cook had an outstanding season leading the team in goals (9), assists (10) and points (28). Her goal total tied her with Rebecca Beyer and Nicole Soules for ninth on the Terriers' single-season record list. The 10 assists rank second, while the 28 points tied her with teammate Melissa Shulman (Huntington, NY) for the fifth-highest total in school history. Shulman scored her 28 points in 2003.
Cook, who had 28 total points during her first two years with the Terriers, will go into her senior year with 56 points on 19 goals and 18 assists. The point total puts her in sixth place on the all-time scoring list, while she is sixth in career goals and fourth in career assists.
Lucey has made an immediate impact on the team playing in all 20 games this season and starting in nine. Her first start came against Harvard on September 22nd and then started the final eight games of the season. She recorded her first career point on October 22nd against Albany. Lucey, who was an All-American, All-New England and four-time league all-star in high school, is making her first appearance on an America East All-Conference team.
Marschall started every game this season, making it the second consecutive season for the junior. In her freshman campaign, she played in 14 games and started three. She has a career total of 10 goals, 7 assists, and 27 points including her four goals and three assists from this past season. In 2003, Marschall was named to the Second Team America East All-Star team and the America East Academic Honor Roll, while receiving America East Academic Honor Roll honors in 2002.
The Terriers concluded their 2004 season on Tuesday night, November 2nd, with a 1-0 double overtime loss to Northeastern. The defeat dropped the team's final record to 13-5-2 overall and 5-3-1 in America East.
