Women's Soccer Steps Out of Conference to Play Dartmouth
October 11, 2005 | Women's Soccer
The Boston University women???s soccer team takes a break from America East play when the Terriers take on the Dartmouth Big Green Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Nickerson Field. BU is unbeaten in its last five games and at 4-0-1 in conference play, the Terriers sit alone in first place in the America East standings, just ahead of Maine (3-0-1). BU is 8-4-3 overall, and has just one loss in its last 10 games. After starting the year 2-3, the Terriers are 6-1-3 since Sept. 9. Meanwhile, Dartmouth is 7-3 overall, 1-1 in Ivy League play. The Big Green have won four of their last five matches.
BU will be looking for its first victory over an Ivy League program this season. The Terriers suffered 1-0 defeats at both Harvard and Brown earlier this year. BU is 3-5-1 all-time against Dartmouth, however the Terriers registered a 2-1 overtime victory when the teams met in Hanover, N.H., last season.
BU is led by senior forward Meghann Cook (Melrose, Mass.), who leads the team in goals, (7), assists (5) and points (19). She ranks fourth in the America East in points and fifth in goals scored. She recorded the assist on BU???s only goal in a 1-0 win over Binghamton Saturday night in the rain. The dish gave her the school record in career assists with 23, breaking a tie with Stacy Schwartz ???98. After a slow start, Cook has been on fire: she has four goals and an assist (9 points) in her last three games, and 17 points (6 goals, 5 assists) in her last 10 matches.
As Cook has been hot, the Terrier defense has kept opponents quite frigid. BU has allowed just one goal in its last five games, and the Terriers have allowed more than one goal just twice all season. The team GAA of 0.63 ranks second in the league, behind Maine. Keepers Stephanie Dreyer (New Rochelle, N.Y.), who is 4-3-1 with a 0.73 GAA and Christina Reuter (Madison, Wisc.), who is 4-1-2 with a 0.53 GAA have combined for seven shutouts on the season.
Dartmouth is coached by Angie Hind and led by junior midfielder Sarah Johnson, who has team-highs of seven goals, three assists and 17 points. Keepers Laurel Peek (3-2, 1.08 GAA) and Amanda Webb (4-1, 1.12 GAA) have combined for a 1.04 GAA and two shutouts.
