
Women's Soccer Hosts Albany in Conference Opener on Sunday

BOSTON - The Boston University’s women’s soccer team opens conference play by welcoming the University at Albany in the America East opener for both teams Sunday afternoon at Nickerson Field. First kick is scheduled for 2 p.m.
BU is undefeated all-time against Albany with a 13-0-0 record since the series began in 1999. The teams last met in the America East title game on Oct. 31, 2011, when the Terriers shut out the Great Danes, 2-0, for their fifth straight America East Championship. BU enters Sunday’s game riding a 24-game winning streak against conferences foes.
The Terriers enter the contest after snapping a three-game losing streak on Thursday by defeating NC State, 3-1. BU is led offensively by junior Madison Clemens who is first on the team in goals (3) and points (6). Five Terriers have netted two apiece on the season, including sophomore Ana Cuffia and senior Brea Hewitt, who are second on the team with five points (2 goals, 1 assist). Sophomore Taylor Krebs leads the team in handouts with three.
In net, junior Andrea Green has started all 10 games and is 3-5-1 with a 1.01 goals-against average, 46 saves and a .821 save percentage. Sophomore Alyssa Parisi saw the first action of her career in the second half against NC State and stopped two shots to lead BU to the victory.
Albany will look to snap its three game losing streak this Sunday after the Great Danes fell to Rhode Island, 3-1, on Friday night. Albany stands at 3-6-1 on the season.
Albany has scored 20 goals this fall by eight different players. Senior Shayla Bergeron leads the offense with 14 points (6 goals, 2 assists), while freshman Allison Carhart and senior Regina Nowkick recorded three apiece. Senior Desp Psomopoulos leads the team with three helpers.
Freshman Alana Brennan and sophomore Jackie Ubert have split time in the net for the Great Danes this season allowing 26 goals holding 3-3-0 and 0-3-1 records, respectively. Brennan has saved 39 goals for a .780 save percentage and 2.02 goals-against mark. Ubert has stopped 25, for a 2.02 goals-against mark, and .676 save percentage.
Mary-Frances Monroe is in her seventh season as head coach at Albany and owns a 40-69-7 record. She lead the Great Danes to the program’s most successful season at the Division I level last fall, going 9-10-1 and advancing to the American East Conference Championship for the first time.
After opening America East play on Sunday, BU hosts the Maine on Thursday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m.
