The Boston University men's lacrosse team will conclude its 2016 season on Sunday when the Terriers host Duke at Nickerson Field. The game will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network beginning at 1 p.m.
Prior to opening faceoff, BU (8-6) will honor its four seniors. Elliott Burr, Patrick Donnelly, Alex Paroda and Sam Tenney have been with team for all three seasons and have made an immeasurable impact on the program.
Sunday marks the first time that the Terriers will host a nationally televised contest at Nickerson Field. BU was previously on national TV last year when the Terriers traveled to Navy. They also appeared on local TV back in March when they defeated Canisius on the road, 10-8.
Already guaranteed its first-ever winning season, BU will look to earn its ninth victory of 2016, which would set a new program record. The Terriers have four wins at home this season, including a 10-9 victory over then-No. 16 Navy on Feb. 27. If BU beats Duke on Sunday, the Terriers will improve to 3-1 against ranked opponents this season and it will be the program's first victory over a top-10 team.
Three Terriers earned year-end awards from the Patriot League, led by junior Sam Talkow. He was named the league's Faceoff Specialist of the Year and joined classmate Cal Dearth as First Team All-Patriot League honorees. For Dearth, that was his second straight selection to the first team. In addition, junior Greg Wozniak was a Second Team All-Patriot League choice.
BU will look to continue its strong defensive work this season against the Blue Devils. The Terriers are fifth in the country with an average of 8.86 caused turnovers per game. Wozniak is tied for ninth in the nation with 1.86 caused turnovers per game. BU is also sixth in the NCAA with an average of 32.71 ground balls per game.
Duke (10-7) defeated Notre Dame in the ACC semifinals on Friday before dropping the title game against Syracuse on Sunday. The Blue Devils have won three of their last four games and should earn an at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament.
Senior Myles Jones was named ACC Offensive Player of the Year after scoring 32 goals and adding 33 assists for 65 points. Sophomore Justin Guterding leads Duke with 66 points while senior Deemer Class is tops on the team leaderboard with 44 goals. Junior goaltender Danny Fowler has started all 17 games, posting a 9.89 goals-against average and a .522 save percentage.
