No. 15 Terriers Edged at Colgate, 14-12

HAMILTON, N.Y. - Sophomore Timothy Shannehan recorded his 100th career point but the No. 15 Boston University men's lacrosse team suffered a 14-12 setback at Colgate on Saturday afternoon.
BU (5-3, 3-1 PL) held a two-goal lead early in the fourth quarter but Colgate (2-6, 1-3 PL) scored the final four goals of the contest to escape with the win. The Terriers had a chance to tie the game in the final minute on a man-up chance but Andrew Leherman made one of his 15 saves and the Raiders scored into a vacant cage to ice the game.
Shannehan led the Terriers with six points on three goals and three assists. His first goal of the day was his 100th point, as he hit that milestone in just his 24th career game, third-fastest in program history. He ended the day with 57 goals and 48 assists for 106 points.
Freshman Peyton Forte recorded a career-best six points on four goals and two assists. Senior Jimmy Kohr notched four goals and classmate Charlie Howard also found the back of the net. Juniors Luke Davis and Tyler Fox notched one assist apiece and sophomore Finn Lawrence also recorded a helper.
Sophomore Madden Murphy battled all day at the X and finished 12-for-25 with a team-best five ground balls. Kohr also gathered five ground balls while Shannehan had four ground balls. Sophomore Connor Phillips made 16 saves for the Terriers. Senior Connor Kehm and junior Murphy McLaughlin each had two caused turnovers.
HOW IT HAPPENED

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Shannehan gave BU a quick 1-0 lead off a successful ride, with Forte eventually finding Shannehan alone in front for the easy finish.
- Colgate scored the next four goals to take a 4-1 lead with 3:43 left in the first quarter, but Forte connected with Shannehan again at 1:15 to cut the lead to 4-2 entering the second quarter.
- Shannehan completed his hat trick just 15 seconds into the second stanza to cut the lead to 4-3, but Colgate answered just 14 seconds later to restore its two-goal edge.
- Forte's first goal of the day at 8:48 made it 5-4, but Casey Quinson responded less than a minute later to make it 6-4.
- Forte then scored two straight goals, both assisted by Shannehan, to tie the game at 6-6 with 5:42 left in the half.
- Howard then gave BU a 7-6 lead with a nifty goal after dodging from X.
- That's how the score stood at halftime, but the Raiders opened the third quarter with three goals in a span of 1:30 to take a 9-7 lead.
- Kohr stopped the run with his first goal of the day at 11:55, but a man-up marker for Colgate extended the Raiders' lead to 10-8.
- BU then went on a 4-0 run that started at 8:54 with a Kohr strike.
- Forte then notched a man-up goal at 7:50 to tie the game at 10-10 before Kohr's man-up strike at 1:57 made it 11-10.
- Kohr doubled the lead at 10:12 when he picked up a rebound and quickly fired home his fourth goal of the day.
- John Carrabine's goal from just inside his own box ended the BU run and sparked the Raiders' game-ending surge, as they notched the next three goals to pull away with the win.
- Kohr has scored in 24 straight games dating back to last season and now has 69 goals for his career.
- He is nine points shy of joining Shannehan in the 100-point club.
- Howard's goal was the second of his career; he notched his first goal against Siena in February.
- Shannehan now leads BU in goals (25), assists (19) and points (44).
- BU went 22-for-25 on clears and forced Colgate into 11 failed clears on the afternoon.
- The Terriers were 3-for-7 on man-up chances and held Colgate to a 1-of-5 mark on EMOs.
- BU will host No. 4 Harvard as the Charles River Rivalry resumes at Nickerson Field on Tuesday, March 24.
