Harrison Named Men's Lacrosse Volunteer Assistant
September 15, 2016 | Men's Lacrosse
BOSTON – Head Boston University men's lacrosse coach Ryan Polley announced on Thursday that Sam Harrison has joined the coaching staff as a volunteer assistant.
This will be Harrison's second season with the Terriers. He was a student assistant last year for the team, which finished with a winning record in just its third season.
"We're excited to bring Sam onto our staff in an expanded role," Polley said. "Coach Harrison brings a strong work ethic and valuable leadership skills that he honed while attending West Point and proudly serving our country. Our young men will learn a great about character and integrity from Coach Harrison."
Harrison graduated from Army West Point in 2010 after four seasons with the Black Knights' lacrosse program. He earned his bachelor's degree in engineering and industrial management before serving in the Army from 2010-2015. Harrison was deployed to Afghanistan in 2012 and earned a bronze star.
On the field, Harrison was voted the team's unsung hero following his senior season in 2010 after he helped lead Army to its most recent Patriot League title and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. He started 16 of 17 games that year at close defense, causing 16 turnovers and collecting 24 ground balls.
"I am honored, humbled, and excited to continue working with the exceptional student-athletes, coaches and athletic administration at Boston University," Harrison said. "Coach Polley and his staff are tremendous mentors and friends and I want to thank them personally giving me an opportunity to work with this elite program. Director of Athletics Drew Marrochello and the entire department are committed to supporting student-athletes in a positive environment in order for them to become the best men and women they can be, and that is a vision I am eager to help with."
