CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Freshman
Clayton Keller became the ninth Boston University player to be named Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Year and joined sophomore
Charlie McAvoy and freshman
Jake Oettinger on the league all-star teams, it was announced at Hockey East's annual banquet on Thursday evening at the Royal Sonesta.
McAvoy was named a Hockey East First Team All-Star while Keller and Oettinger collected second-team honors and were the only two freshmen on either of the top two teams.
Keller added to BU's league record for Rookie of the Year honorees after leading all league freshmen in overall scoring (19-21--40) and in conference play (12-15--27). His current points-per-game average of 1.43 leads all Division I freshmen and ranks ninth among all players.
Current assistant coach
Scott Young became BU's first Hockey East Rookie of the Year winner in 1986. Seven other Terriers collected the honor through the years, most recently Jack Eichel in 2015.
McAvoy, a Hockey East All-Rookie Team selection a year ago, enters Hockey East Championship weekend with 24 points on four goals and 20 assists and was a force on both ends of the ice to help the Terriers claim a share of the league's regular-season title.Â
Oettinger led Hockey East in goals-against average during league games with a 2.09 and is currently second overall among league goaltenders in both goals-against average (2.06) and save percentage (.928). He is the ninth BU goaltender to be named to a Hockey East All-Star Team.
