Carson-Banister, Dearth Named Inside Lacrosse All-Americans

BALTIMORE, Md. - Seniors Christian Carson-Banister and Cal Dearth were both recognized by Inside Lacrosse as 2017 All-Americans, the magazine announced on Sunday night.
Carson-Banister was a third-team selection while Dearth earned an honorable mention nod. This is the first time in program history that a Terrier has earned any national All-American honor; this is also the first year that Inside Lacrosse released its own set of All-Americans.
The Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year, Carson-Banister was outstanding for BU in 2017. He finished the regular season third in the country in save percentage (.586) and was 13th in the nation in goals-against average (8.64). A unanimous First Team All-Patriot League selection, Carson-Banister made 10 or more saves in 12 of his 17 starts while leading BU to its best-ever record at 12-5. One of those wins was an 11-save effort in which he allowed just four goals against Lehigh to earn the program's first-ever Patriot League tournament victory. Carson-Banister averaged 14 saves per game against 2017 NCAA tournament teams and went 3-1 against those four squads.
Dearth started all 17 games at attack en route to being named a Unanimous First Team All-Patriot League performer. He led the Terriers with 57 points thanks to 38 goals and 19 assists. His 57 points and 38 goals are single-season program records. Dearth, who was also named a Preseason All-American by Inside Lacrosse, lived up to expectations by securing a point in every game this season while saving his best for last. In the Terriers' final five games of the year, Dearth scored 15 goals and and added five assists for 20 points, including nine goals in the final two Patriot League regular-season games to help BU clinch the third seed for the conference tournament.
The Inside Lacrosse All-America teams were compiled by more than 30 members of the lacrosse media who vote in the weekly Maverik Media Poll. Their selections were made at the conclusion of the 2017 regular season and account for performances through May 8.
