
Polley Named New England Coach of the Year; Six Earn All-New England Honors

NEWTON, Mass. - Boston University head men's lacrosse coach Ryan Polley was named New England Division I Coach of the Year and six Terriers received All-New England honors, the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) announced on Tuesday.
Seniors Dominick Calisto and Cal Dearth were recognized on the All-New England First Team while sophomore Brendan Homire joined seniors Jack Beall, Christian Carson-Banister and Greg Wozniak on the All-New England Second Team. Five of those six players also earned All-Patriot League selections in 2017. This is the first year that any Terriers have been selected to an All-New England Team.
Polley, the 2017 Patriot League Coach of the Year, led the Terriers to historic new heights in their fourth season. BU finished the conference schedule with a 5-3 record and concluded the regular season with a 12-5 mark, setting program records for most wins and fewest losses in a season en route to the program's first-ever Patriot League tournament appearance. The Terriers finished the regular season with a top-15 defense nationally and was ranked or received votes in at least one major national poll each week, rising as high as 15th in the Inside Lacrosse media poll. BU also boasted a a top-20 RPI at the end of the regular season.
Calisto was one of the top defenders in the Patriot League this season en route to being a first-team all-conference selection. He consistently limited opponents' top attackers to a limited output, anchoring one of the nation's top close defense units. Calisto was the first defender to ever hold Loyola's Pat Spencer, one of five Tewaaraton Award finalists, to a single point as the Terriers defeated the Greyhounds on April 15. He also held Lehigh's Matt Raposo to zero points in a Patriot League quarterfinal victory and kept Harvard's Morgan Cheek to just two points after he entered that contest averaging nearly six points per game. Statistically strong as well, Calisto led the Terriers with a career-high 28 caused turnovers and also gathered 37 ground balls.
Dearth, an Inside Lacrosse All-American, started all 17 games at attack en route to being named a Unanimous First Team All-Patriot League performer. He led the Terriers with 57 points thanks to 38 goals and 19 assists. His 57 points and 38 goals are single-season program records. Dearth, who was also named a Preseason All-American by Inside Lacrosse, lived up to expectations by securing a point in every game this season while saving his best for last. In the Terriers' final five games of the year, Dearth scored 15 goals and and added five assists for 20 points, including nine goals in the final two Patriot League regular-season games to help BU clinch the third seed for the conference tournament.
Beall was one of the best defensive midfielders in the region in 2017. He finished the season with 20 ground balls and eight caused turnovers. He was also dangerous in transition, tallying four points on one goal and three assists. The Camas, Washington, native usually took the opening defensive midfield shift of the game for BU, matching up against the top midfield unit of the Terriers' opponents. Beall grabbed at least one ground ball in 11 of the 16 games in which he played, including a season-high four in a convincing win over UMass Lowell on Feb. 11. Beall also shined against 2017 NCAA quarterfinalist Duke, securing three ground balls and forcing two giveaways against the Blue Devils.
The Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year and an Inside Lacrosse Third Team All-American, Carson-Banister was outstanding for BU in 2017. He finished the regular season third in the country in save percentage (.586) and was 13th in the nation in goals-against average (8.64). A unanimous First Team All-Patriot League selection, Carson-Banister made 10 or more saves in 12 of his 17 starts while leading BU to its best-ever record at 12-5. One of those wins was an 11-save effort in which he allowed just four goals against Lehigh to earn the program's first-ever Patriot League tournament victory. Carson-Banister averaged 14 saves per game against 2017 NCAA tournament teams and went 3-1 against those four squads.
Homire started all 17 games at midfield for the Terriers, matching his career high with nine goals and adding six assists for 15 points. He also gathered 10 ground balls.
