BALTIMORE, Md. - Seniors Dominick Calisto, Christian Carson-Banister, Cal Dearth and Greg Wozniak of the Boston University men's lacrosse team were all selected to play in the 76th annual USILA North/South Senior All-Star game on Friday night.
The quartet of Terrier seniors will cap their outstanding collegiate careers on Friday at Providence as part of the Division I/II North Team. This is the first time that BU will be represented at the North/South game. The prestigious contest will take place at 5:30, with tickets available either online or at Chapey Field on Friday. Fans can also watch the game, free of charge, at friars.com.
All four Terriers earned All-Patriot League honors this season for their part in leading BU to its best season in program history. The Terriers went 12-5, achieved a national ranking of 15 and advanced to the Patriot League semifinals.
Calisto was one of the top defenders in the Patriot League this season en route to being a first-team all-conference selection. He consistently limited opponents' top attackers to a limited output, anchoring one of the nation's top close defense units. Calisto was the first defender to ever hold Loyola's Pat Spencer, one of five Tewaaraton Award finalists, to a single point as the Terriers defeated the Greyhounds on April 15. He also held Lehigh's Matt Raposo to zero points in a Patriot League quarterfinal victory and kept Harvard's Morgan Cheek to just two points after he entered that contest averaging nearly six points per game. Statistically strong as well, Calisto led the Terriers with a career-high 28 caused turnovers and also gathered 37 ground balls.
The Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year and an Inside Lacrosse Third Team All-American, Carson-Banister was outstanding for BU in 2017. He finished the regular season third in the country in save percentage (.586) and was 13th in the nation in goals-against average (8.64). A unanimous First Team All-Patriot League selection, Carson-Banister made 10 or more saves in 12 of his 17 starts while leading BU to its best-ever record at 12-5. One of those wins was an 11-save effort in which he allowed just four goals against Lehigh to earn the program's first-ever Patriot League tournament victory. Carson-Banister averaged 14 saves per game against 2017 NCAA tournament teams and went 3-1 against those four squads.
Dearth, an Inside Lacrosse All-American, started all 17 games at attack en route to being named a Unanimous First Team All-Patriot League performer. He led the Terriers with 57 points thanks to 38 goals and 19 assists. His 57 points and 38 goals are single-season program records. Dearth, who was also named a Preseason All-American by Inside Lacrosse, lived up to expectations by securing a point in every game this season while saving his best for last. In the Terriers' final five games of the year, Dearth scored 15 goals and and added five assists for 20 points, including nine goals in the final two Patriot League regular-season games to help BU clinch the third seed for the conference tournament.
Wozniak once again established himself as one of the best long-stick midfielders in the Patriot League and was a second-team all-conference honoree. He finished the year second on the team ground balls (52) and also recorded 17 caused turnovers in addition to one goal. Wozniak had at least one ground ball in every game and tallied two or more ground balls in 13 of the 16 contests in which he played. He was a key contributor on both faceoffs and in the defensive end of the field while also helping the Terriers get out in transition. Wozniak held unanimous Patriot League first-team selection Greyson Torain of Navy to zero even-strength goals in a game that also saw Wozniak gather seven ground balls. In addition, Wozniak had six ground balls and three caused turnovers in a 10-4 victory over Lehigh in the Patriot League quarterfinals.
