April 22, 2018 | Softball
BOSTON – After three scoreless innings, senior Kaitlin Sahlinger followed up on freshman Marina Sylvestri's RBI single with an RBI triple to help lead the Boston University softball team to a 3-0 home victory over Lafayette on Sunday afternoon.
Freshman Ali DuBois (22-6) tallied six strikeouts for her second shutout of the weekend and eighth overall, as the Terriers (30-17, 10-2 PL) extended their win streak to 12 games. They finished with a 7-3 advantage in hits against the Leopards (7-35, 3-12 PL).

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Terriers led off the first three innings with a single but were unable to take advantage against Alex Randall (5-15), stranding a combined four runners in scoring position.
- Senior Jilee Schanda kept the streak going with her second lead-off single in the fourth inning.
- With two outs, she stole second and then reached home on Sylvestri's single that found the right angle at second to keep the inning alive.
- Sahlinger then crushed a 2-1 pitch to right field field for an RBI triple and scored thanks to an errant Lafayette throw.
- Senior Emma Wong started the fifth with a single and stolen base but was thrown out at home, as she tried to score on a fly ball to right.
- The Leopards tried to mount a rally in the seventh with a one-out walk and single, but senior Brittany Younan collected a pair of grounders at short and got back-to-back force outs to seal the win.
- The Terriers' 12-game win streak is the program's longest since BU won 13 straight in 2014 toward the end of the season.
- Schanda, Younan and Wong all had two stolen bases apiece to give the Terriers six on the day, one shy of the school record set three times, including most recently in 2015.
- Schanda collected her fourth three-hit performance of the season and finished the weekend batting 6-of-8 against the Leopards.
- Sahlinger went 2-of-2 with her second triple of the season and third career.
- The Terriers now own 25 triples, 10 shy of the school record set in 1994.
- DuBois recorded a combined 22 strikeouts in 17 innings of work against the Leopards.
- BU is now a perfect 15-0 all-time in the series and have outscored the Leopards, 88-12, with seven shutouts in the last nine contests.
- The Terriers will continue their seven-game homestand on Tuesday (April 24) by hosting Providence at 4 p.m.
- BU is 19-13-1 all-time in the series dating back to 1988.
- In the last meeting in 2016, BU claimed a home 10-2 run-rule victory with junior Alex Heinen producing a three-RBI double and three-run homer.
