With just their second run-rule defeat of the season, the Terriers fall to 39-19, while the two-time defending national champion Sooners improve to 51-3 after avenging the earlier regular-season loss to BU.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Following two scoreless innings, senior Kaitlin Sahlinger and junior Alexa Ponce opened the third with back-to-back singles.
- Four-time Big 12 Pitcher of the Year Paige Parker (27-2) though got a strikeout and a pair of pop ups to end the threat.
- The Sooners also led off the third with a single against freshman Ali DuBois (28-8) and advanced the runner to second on a sacrifice bunt.
- They fouled out on the next at-bat but followed up on a walk with a perfectly-placed bloop single in shallow left for a 1-0 lead.
- Junior and reigning PL tournament MVP Madi Killebrew earned a one-out single in the fourth but was stranded at first.
- Oklahoma's high-powered offense then jumped on three Terrier pitchers by taking advantage of two costly errors with eight runs off five hits.
- In two key at-bats, All-Big 12 honoree Sydney Romero hit a bases-clearing triple and Big 12 Rookie of the Year Jocelyn Alo crushed a pitch to deep center for her 25th homer of the season.
- Throwing as hard as 72 mph, Paige Lowary got three outs in the top of the fifth to seal the run-rule victory for the Sooners.
- The Terriers moved to 7-17 all-time in NCAA tournament action and 2-4 against Oklahoma in their first visit to Norman.
- DuBois had BU's lone strikeout of the game, while Parker and Lowary combined for six.
- BU was shut out for just the fifth time this season in 19 losses with Boston College the last to accomplish the feat in a 1-0 win back on March 28.
- Then-No. 3 UCLA is the only other squad to run-rule the Terriers this season with a 10-2 (6) win back on March 10.
- The Terriers will face the Tigers in an elimination game on Saturday (May 19) at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN3.
- Missouri is in the elimination bracket following a 9-1(5) loss to Tulsa.
- The winner will meet the loser of the Tulsa/Oklahoma game immediately following at 10 p.m. ET.
- The Tigers are 4-1 all-time against BU, as the teams will meet for the first time since 2008.
