BU advances to face third-seeded Northeastern in Friday's semifinal round at TD Garden beginning at 4 p.m.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- BU wasted little time in building a lead it would not relinquish, scoring a trio of tallies in the first while limiting Lowell to just three shots in the period.
- Skating on a 3-on-1 rush, Harper found Krys for a one-timer from the right circle to give the visitors a 1-0 lead just 3:28 into the contest.
- The Terriers continued to put on the pressure, first having a goal waved off due to a high stick before Farabee scored minutes later on a sharp wrister from the left circle at 12:05 of the opening period.
- Moments after the only power play of the game expired, BU was able to take a 3-0 lead into the first intermission thanks to a shot by Harper from the left side that got through traffic with 1:26 remaining in the first.
- After a scoreless second period, the River Hawks got on the board and ended junior Jake Oettinger's shutout bid with a tally by Kenny Hausinger at 8:02 of the third.
- The BU defense stifled UML the rest of the way as Harper added an empty netter with just under a minute left to seal the victory.
- BU has reached the Hockey East semifinals for the 15th time in 18 years.
- Albie O'Connell becomes the first first-year head coach since Tim Whitehead (UMass Lowell) in 1997 to lead a team to the Hockey East semifinals.
- The Terriers held a 29-19 shot advantage as Oettinger made 18 saves.
- Christoffer Hernberg made 10 saves on 13 shots for the River Hawks before being replaced by Tyler Wall, who stopped all 15 shots he faced.
- BU had the only power play of the contest and was able to keep its penalty kill off the ice.
- Sophomore Logan Cockerill had the first two-assist game of his career.
- Freshman Hugo Blixt had a game-best four blocked shots.
- BU will face third-seeded and ninth-ranked Northeastern in the Hockey East semifinals on Friday (March 22) at TD Garden.
- Game time is set for 4 p.m.
- The game will be televised live on NESNplus.
- The teams were an even 1-1-1 in three meetings during the regular season.
