Four Terriers Earn First Team All-Patriot League Honors
April 29, 2019 | Men's Lacrosse
All four Terriers were instrumental in the team qualifying for a third consecutive Patriot League Tournament and recording the program's second 10-win season in six years of existence. BU was one of only two teams to place three or more athletes on the first team.
Burr became the first Terrier to score 50 goals in one season and added 14 assists for a career-high 64 points. He enters the playoffs having scored a goal in 32 straight games, which is the longest active streak in the country. Burr is third in the nation and second in the Patriot League in goals, and he also ranks third in the conference and 16th in the country in points. This is the first all-league honor for Burr, who holds the Terriers' all-time goals (147) and points (186) records. The Boston Cannons draft pick has notched at least two goals in all 15 contests this season.
Germain proved himself to be one of the best cover defenders in the conference this season, most notably holding PL Offensive Player of the Year Pat Spencer to just one assist in the Terriers' win over Loyola. Consistently tasked with guarding the opposition's top attackman, Germain anchored a Terrier defense that held teams to under 10 goals per game when he was in the lineup. The Huntington, New York, native gathered 16 ground balls and caused 14 turnovers in 13 starts. This is the first all-league selection for Germain.
One of 25 nominees for the 2019 Tewaaraton Award, Gray finished the regular season as the nation's leader in points (99) thanks to 43 goals and 56 assists. He is one of just three players in the country with 40 goals and 40 assists, and his 56 helpers rank second in the NCAA. This is the second straight First Team All-Patriot League appearance for Gray, who was the league's Rookie of the Year in 2018. He has not been held to fewer than five points in each of the last 14 games and has collected at least four points in all 15 tilts. Gray set a new single-season Patriot League points record on Friday with his 98th point, and when he reaches the century mark, he will be just the 18th different NCAA player to have done so.
Homire had a sensational year in the Terrier midfield, notching 38 points on 18 goals and 20 assists, all of which are career highs. Homire also secured 31 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers, proving himself an invaluable part of the Terriers' ride and faceoff unit. He has notched a point in all but two of his 15 starts this season and twice tallied a career-high four goals, including in a come-from-behind win over Bucknell on March 16. Homire collected at least two points on 11 different occasions and had at least two ground balls 10 times.
Gray and Homire are the fifth and sixth Terriers to twice earn all-league honors, with Gray becoming the first Terrier since Cal Dearth (2015, 2016, 2017) to earn a pair of first-team nods. Homire was also a second-team selection in 2017. Germain is the second BU close defender to garner first-team honors, joining Dominick Calisto (2017).
BU will begin the 2019 Patriot League Tournament on Tuesday when the Terriers welcome Bucknell to Nickerson Field for a quarterfinal contest. Opening faceoff is scheduled or 7 p.m.
