ORONO, Maine – The No. 22 Boston University field hockey team dropped a 2-1 road contest to No. 24 Maine on Friday afternoon at the UMaine Field Hockey Complex.

BU outshot Maine, 11-6, and held a 7-3 advantage in corners before coming up short and moving to 3-2 on the year. The Black Bears, who began the season with three straight losses, earned their first win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Maine got both of its goals from Brianna Ricker, beginning with a tally just 2:42 into the contest off an assist from Hana Davis.
BU got an equalizer before the end of the first quarter as freshman Jodie Conolly possessed the ball at the top right of the circle before finding classmate Ellie McIntyre for a redirect at the goalmouth in the 14th minute.
Ricker struck again for the home team with under seven minutes left in the opening half when she forced a turnover in the midfield before creating space at the top of the circle and firing an elevated shot to the back of the net.
The Terriers dominated play in the second half, earning five of their seven corners after halftime, but were unable to come up with an equalizer.

GAME NOTES

The Terriers held an 8-1 shot advantage in the second half.
This was the first game all season that junior Ailsa Connolly was held without a point.
Freshman Caroline Kelly made two saves in goal for the Terriers while Mia Borley recorded four saves for Maine and got help from a defensive save by Morgan Anson in the third quarter.

UP NEXT

The Terriers will stay in Orono tonight before taking on Columbia in a neutral-site contest at 2 p.m.
It will be the first-ever meeting between BU and Columbia.
