No. 22 Field Hockey Edged by Columbia in Overtime, 4-3

ORONO, Maine – The No. 22 Boston University field hockey team fell victim to a late comeback and dropped a 4-3 overtime contest to Columbia on Saturday afternoon at the UMaine Field Hockey Complex.
BU, which doubled up Columbia in both shots (16-8) and corners (6-3), falls to an even 3-3 on the year while the Lions improve to 2-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Terriers erased deficits of 1-0 and 2-1 before junior Maggie New scored off a rebound with under seven minutes left in regulation to take a 3-2 lead.
- The Lions pulled their goalkeeper in favor of an extra field player and earned a corner with a minute left in regulation.
- Kelsey Farkas scored the game-tying goal for Columbia at the 59:06 mark, sending the game to overtime.
- In the extra session, the Lions created a breakaway for Allison Smith and she capitalized on it to end the game in the 65th minute.
- Columbia scored on the first shot of the game as Jennifer Trieschman gave the Lions a quick 1-0 lead at 3:12.
- The Terriers quickly notched an equalizer as junior Miya Denison took a pass from freshman Mikayla Crowley before sending in her second goal of the year at 6:26.
- The Lions were able to take a 2-1 lead into halftime after Brooke Gasser scored at the 21:45 mark with an assist from Kelly McCarthy.
- BU made it a 2-2 affair in the 38th minute when freshman Ellie McIntyre found the boards.
- New's first goal of the season gave BU its only lead of the game.
- BU held an 11-5 advantage in shots on goal.
- McIntyre scored a goal in each game this weekend and now has three tallies through six games as a rookie.
- Freshman Caroline Kelly made one save for the Terriers while the Lions got a seven-save performance from Alexa Conomikes in addition to a defensive save.
- The Terriers will return to action on Saturday (Sept. 21) when they face Bucknell in their Patriot League opener.
- Game time at New Balance Field is set for 1 p.m.
