Farrance Honored as Top Defenseman in New England

BOSTON - Junior David Farrance of the Boston University men's ice hockey team has been named the recipient of the Bob Monahan Award, given annual to the top college hockey defenseman in New England. as announced by the New England Hockey Writers Association on Tuesday.
This joins Farrance's many accloades from a junior campaign in which he was a Hobey Baker top-10 finalist and a CCM/AHCA First Team All-American. He joins an impressive list of former Terriers to receive the region's top defenseman award with Matt Gilroy and Matt Grzelcyk among the names.
Farrance led all Division I blueliners in points (43), goals (14) and power-play goals (9) this season and finished sixth overall in points nationally. His 1.26 points-per-game average was the highest of any Hockey East defenseman in 25 years. A Hockey East First Team All-Star, Farrance also earned a spot on the All-USCHO First Team and his 43 points were the most of any BU d-man in the Hockey East era.

Farrance was one of five defensemen on the New England Division I All-Star Team, joined by Harvard sophomore Jack Rothbone, Providence sophomore Michael Callahan, Sacred Heart senior Mike Lee and Northeastern senior Ryan Shea.
Senior Patrick Curry was named a runner-up for the Frank Jones Award, given to the top defensive forward in New England.
