Terriers to Open Home-and-Home Series with No. 8/9 UMass Friday Night at Agganis

The Boston University men's ice hockey team will continue its 100th season this weekend when the Terriers face No. 8/9 UMass in a home-and-home series that begins Friday night at Agganis Arena and concludes Saturday night at Mullins Center.
Puck drop on Friday for Heroes Night at Agganis is at 7:30. The team will wear special jerseys during warmups, which will then be raffled off to military members, essential workers and first responders through the first intermission.
Effective Oct. 15, 2021, all guests 12 years and older will be required to present proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 or a qualifying negative COVID-19 test to gain access to Agganis Arena and the Case Center for ice hockey and basketball games. TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU returns home after three straight road games, most recently a sweep at the hands of Northern Michigan on Nov. 5-6.
- In the opening contest last weekend, junior Robert Mastrosimone scored a career-high two goals, junior Wilmer Skoog matched a career high with two assists and junior Case McCarthy tallied one goal and one assist in a 5-3 loss.
- Freshman Braden Doyle notched his first NCAA point with an assist that night.
- Freshman Ty Gallagher scored his first collegiate goal the next night in a 6-2 loss, with classmate Tristan Amonte earning his first point as a Terrier with an assist on junior Domenick Fensore's marker.
- Junior Sam Stevens, senior Logan Cockerill, junior Ethan Phillips, sophomore Dylan Peterson and sophomore Nick Zabaneh also had one assist apiece against the Wildcats.
- Skoog leads the Terriers with nine points and is tied with Phillips and Fensore for the team lead in assists at five.
- Mastrosimone has tallied a team-high five goals.
- All five Terrier freshmen have notched at least one point this season.
SERIES HISTORY
- The Terriers are 65-14-7 all-time against UMass in a series that began on Jan. 16, 1920.
- BU earned its first win in program history against UMass, which was known then as Massachusetts Agricultural College, on Jan. 11, 1923, at Boston Arena.
- The Terriers have won three of the last four matchups, including a sweep of last season's series.
- BU is 18-3-3 against UMass at Agganis Arena.
- The Terriers are 23-9-4 against the Minutemen at the Mullins Center.
SCOUTING THE MINUTEMEN
- UMass enters the weekend on a four-game win streak thanks to a pair of Hockey East weekend sweeps.
- The most recent one came against then-No. 7/8 Providence, as UMass earned a 1-0 home win and a 5-1 road win on Nov. 5-6.
- Graduate student Matt Murray was named Hockey East Goaltender of the Week for his efforts against Providence, which included a 41-save performance in the 5-1 victory.
- He has started all eight games for the Minutemen, posting a .933 save percentage and a 2.13 goals-against average.
- Senior Bobby Trivigno leads UMass with nine points thanks to a team-high six assists.
- He is also one of four UMass skaters with a team-high three goals.
- Junior Cal Kiefiuk and freshman Scott Morrow are both second on the squad in points and assists, having notched three goals and five assists for eight points.
- BU and UMass will skate at Mullins Center on Saturday night at 7.
- Saturday's contest will be televised live on NESN.
