BOSTON - The Boston University field hockey team will close out the regular season on Sunday (April 18) when its plays host to Lehigh. Game time at New Balance Field is set for 1 p.m. and the Terriers will honor their six-member senior class prior to the game.
BU (3-0) will attempt to finish the regular season undefeated and a win would secure hosting rights for next week's Patriot League Championship. The Terriers have clinched a spot in the four-team tournament and will be no lower than the No. 2 seed.
Lehigh (2-2) controls its destiny as a win secures the Mountain Hawks a spot in the league tournament but a loss would end their season. After opening their season with wins over Lafayette and Bucknell, the Mountain Hawks have most recently dropped home contests against Holy Cross and American.
The Mountain Hawks are led offensively by senior Lenke Havas, sophomore M.J. Schwab and freshman Jula Gatelein as each of them has scored two goals. Sophomore Maddie Kahn has a 1.01 goals-against average and an .879 save percentage.
The Terriers will be playing for the first time since March 27 when they edged Colgate, 2-1, to remain undefeated. Senior back Kathryn Scheerer has excelled this season on both ends of the field and has a team-best two goals. Seniors Alexis Pettisani and Liz Ryan, junior Rebecca Janes and sophomore Ellie McIntyre have one goal apiece.
In goal, sophomore Caroline Kelly and Kate Thomason have combined for a .750 save percentage and an 0.99 goals-against average.
BU is 6-1 all-time against Lehigh with the lone loss coming in the most recent meeting, a 2-1 overtime loss in Bethlehem on Nov. 2, 2019.
