BOSTON - For the second consecutive game, the Boston University softball team put up four runs in the bottom half of the first inning to take an early lead and never looked back, as it advanced to the Patriot League Tournament championship round with a 9-1 five-inning decision over Lehigh Friday afternoon.

The Terriers (35-2) will look for their third straight and fifth overall Patriot League title dating back to their official joining of the conference in the summer of 2013 on Saturday, as one more win would secure the program's first-ever three-peat.

Lehigh (17-15) scored its lone run in the top of the fourth, but freshman Lauren Nett recorded her second consecutive three-RBI performance by knocking in sophomore Caitlin Coker with a walk-off single to right field to end the game in five innings.

Senior Ali DuBois (24-0) remained perfect in the circle by recording four strikeouts over five innings of work against just four hits allowed.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The top of the order loaded the bases to start the bottom half of the first before Nett picked up where she left off from yesterday, drilling a line drive down the right side to bring in Coker and freshman Lauren Keleher.
Junior Nicole Amodio followed with a sacrifice fy to center, allowing Keleher to cross the plate from third.
Coming on with two outs to pinch-hit, senior Marina Sylvestri ripped a single up the middle to double the lead, 4-0, at the end of the frame.
Continuing to apply pressure on All-PL First Team pitcher Gabriella Nori (8-6), junior Emily Gant and Keleher moved into scoring position with one away in the bottom of the second, where Nett pushed the lead to 5-0 after a groundout.
Gant later came home on an error, and senior Jen Horita later came in on a single to center by junior Aliyah Huerta-Leipner to extend the advantage to 7-0.
Horita delivered her own RBI single in the third, allowing Gant to score an unearned run once more.
Lehigh broke the shutout in the top of the fourth with a double and RBI single to trim the gap to seven.
Needing one more run to end the contest early and prevent any chance of a rally, Nett looped a bases-loaded single into the outfield for the walk-off RBI.

GAME NOTES

The Terriers tied their own PL record 17-game win streak set earlier this season and need just one more win to tie the 2001 BU squad's 18-game streak.
BU is now on an eight-game win streak in the PL tournament and is 13-2 overall under sixth-year head coach Ashley Waters with title victories in 2016, 18 and 19.
Nett has recorded a multi-RBI performance in both tourney games after accomplishing the feat twice during all of the regular season.
DuBois is one win away from tying Cassidi Hardy's ('10) program record in wins (85).

NEXT UP: Lehigh

BU and the Mountain Hawks will square off for the automatic NCAA berth for the fourth straight season on Saturday with first pitch set for 12 p.m. on ESPN+.
The home team has prevailed each of the last three occasions with BU winning the first game in both 2018 and 2019.
Host Lehigh held off the Terriers in a pair of one-run decisions in 2017.
