Terriers to Clash with Navy Tuesday Night at Nickerson Field in PL Semifinals

BOSTON – Making its first Patriot League tournament appearance in four years, the No. 2 seeded Boston University men's soccer team will host No. 4 Navy on Tuesday night with semifinal action set to begin at 6 p.m.

The Terriers took second in the conference standings with 15 points, while the Midshipmen finished tied-for-third with Colgate at 14 points. The Raiders dropped a 3-1 decision over the weekend to No. 6 American, who will play at top-seeded Army West Point in the other semifinal contest with the two winners matching up on Saturday at the highest remaining seed.

TERRIER TIDBITS
  • BU earned its sixth No. 2 seed, having won titles in the America East in 1995 and 1997, respectively. The Terriers are 4-1-2 all-time with a 0-1-1 mark in the PL. They fell to the Eagles in 2015 before earning an at-large NCAA bid and then on penalty kicks in 2017 to Holy Cross following a scoreless deadlock.
  • Overall, the Terriers are 10-6-3 all-time in the semifinals, last winning in 2014 as the top seed in their first-ever PL tourney appearance.
  • BU went 4-1-4 at home during the regular season compared to its 2-4-2 road mark, collecting wins in the last three home contests against Lehigh (2-0), American (1-0) and Bucknell (2-0).

He's been supported by a backline that includes two All-PL honorees in Roach and graduate student Evan Morrison alongside Ryan Lau, who recently placed No. 89 in TopDrawerSoccer's Top 100 Freshmen rankings.
  • Opponents are averaging 0.4 more shots per game with an 86-77 advantage in corners.
SCOUTING NAVY
  • Navy is on a three-game unbeaten streak following back-to-back 1-0 victories over Lafayette and American along with a 1-1 draw against Loyola Maryland.
  • Overall, the Midshipmen are 3-1-2 on the road compared to their 3-2-6 home mark following a 1-0 loss at Villanova and 1-1 draw at Holy Cross.
  • The Midshipmen are led by PL Midfielder of the Year David Jackson, who owns a team-high 15 points off six goals and three assists ahead of All-PL member Baba Kallie, who has 11 points off four goals and three assists.
  • Pierce Holbrook has started 16 games at net, posting a .795 save percentage and 0.94 goals against average.
  • Opponents are averaging 1.8 more shots with a 110-87 advantage in corner kicks.
SERIES HISTORY
  • BU is 6-2-1 all-time in the series after rallying late for a 1-1 draw at Navy back on Oct. 1.
  • The Midshipmen edged the Terriers in shots, 12-11, with Montali posting five saves against Holbrook's one stop despite BU owning 9-1 advantage in corners.
  • The Terriers are 5-0-0 all-time at home with four 1-0 victories, including most recently a 1-0 decision in 2021.
