BOSTON – In the third and final weekend down south, the Boston University softball team will compete in a pair of doubleheaders at the Clemson Classic starting Friday afternoon.
The defending Patriot League champion Terriers will battle Akron (12:30 p.m.) and the No. 9 Tigers (3 p.m.) to open the tournament on Friday (Feb. 25). They will then face defending NEC champion Saint Francis (Pa.) on Saturday at 10 a.m. before participating in either the consolation (3 p.m.) or championship game (5 p.m.).
BU is one of three teams to be coming off an NCAA appearance alongside Clemson and the Red Flash. The Terriers last weekend went 3-2 at the Red & Black Showcase in Athens, Georgia, collecting notable wins against the No. 13 Bulldogs and Purdue.

TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU collected two conference weekly awards on Tuesday following the visit to Georgia. Graduate student Jen Horita (.258 avg.) was named PL Player of the Week for the third time after batting .412 with four runs and three RBIs, while junior Allison Boaz (2-2, 2.25 ERA) earned her second career Pitcher of the Week award after collecting two wins along with her first career save against the Boilermakers.
- Sophomore Kayla Roncin leads BU at .310 with four doubles, two triples and four runs scored. Junior and reigning PL Player of the Week Caitlin Coker is hitting .276 with six runs scored, while senior Nicole Amodio (.261) owns three homers plus seven RBIs.
- Junior Lizzy Avery (1-3, 3.54 ERA) has started six games in the circle and has posted 26 strikeouts in 31.2 innings.
- In BU's three wins, the Terriers collected at least five runs, and in five of the six losses, they were held to 0 or 1 runs five times.
- Owner of wins against the Big 10 and SEC this season, the Terriers will be seeking their first win against the ACC since beating Boston College two times last season.
- Overall, BU is batting .208 on the season while holding opponents to .288.

- The Zips took this past weekend off after going 0-5 at a tournament in Florida in which they fell to five different Power 5 schools, including a 3-2 defeat to Penn State and 4-2 loss to Wisconsin. They went 8-46 last season with 7-33 mark in the Mid-American Conference.
- Molly McChesney and Kalli Macintosh-Houlder both hit .286 with McChesney reaching home plate two times.
- Akron has had six pitchers appear in the circle with Lexie Petrof (0-2, 3.00 ERA) tallying nine strikeouts in 9.1 innings.
- The Zips are batting .125 so far and holding opponents to .307.
- Teams are meeting for the first time in program history.

- The 2021 NCAA Regional finalist Tigers have won their last two games, posting a 5-2 victory over Charlotte and 2-0 win against then No. 5 Washington. Their three losses came against Wisconsin (2-1), then-No. 23 Northwestern (7-0) and No. 8 Texas (4-0).
- All-American and reigning ACC Player of the Year Valerie Cagle is batting .394 with three homers and 10 RBIs while posting a 4-2 record in the circle with 1.81 ERA and 42 strikeouts in 31.0 innings.
- Cammy Pereira (.357 avg.) and Madison May (.313 avg.) have earned four RBIs apiece.
- Millie Thompson (1-0) has tallied 16 strikeouts in 14.2 innings while holding opponents to a .151 batting average.
- Clemson is batting .283 while holding opponents to .195 with a 27-7 advantage in extra-base hits.
- Teams are meeting for the first time in program history.
Saturday, 10 a.m.
- Earning a 40-10 record in 2021, the Red Flash went 2-3 last weekend at the Furman Tournament, posting a split against Furmand and South Dakota while dropping a 3-0 decision to Georgetown.
- Jordan Pietrzykoski leads SFU at .394 with Mekenzie Saban (.389) and Jordan Frank (.387) close behind. Both Saban and Rachel Marsden (.250 avg) own a team-high seven RBIs apiece.
- Rachel Marsden (4-1, 2.65 ERA) and Grace Vesco (1-4, 3.90 ERA) have split time in the circle, combining for 56 strikeouts in 63.0 innings.
- Overall, the Red Flash are batting .308 and holding opponents to .238 with 20-11 advantage in extra-base hits.
