Hutson Named Hockey East Player of the Week

November 6, 2023

AMESBURY, Mass. - For the second time this season, sophomore defenseman Lane Hutson of the Boston University men's ice hockey team has been named Hockey East Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

Hutson was terrific in a weekend split with then-No. 3/4 North Dakota, highlighted by a historic performance on Saturday. Hutson scored the Terriers' first three goals of the game for his first collegiate hat trick, including two goals in a span of 2:08 late in the second stanza to erase a 3-1 deficit. Hutson also lit the lamp in Friday's 3-2 victory to finish the series with four goals.

A native of North Barrington, Illinois, Hutson leads all NCAA defensemen with six goals in just seven games. He has also notched three assists for nine points, which ranks second among all Hockey East blue liners. His hat trick on Saturday was the first by a Terrier defenseman since David Farrance scored three times against Providence on Nov. 9, 2019.

BU, which stayed at No. 9 in the USCHO.com poll and No. 8 in the USA Hockey/The Rink Live poll, will return to league play this weekend when the Terriers begin a home-and-home series against UMass Lowell Friday night at Tsongas Center.
