BOSTON – Riding an NCAA leading 15-game road active win streak, the Boston University softball team will conclude the non-conference schedule at B-line rival Boston College Tuesday afternoon with first pitch slated for 5 p.m.
With last weekend's Patriot League series sweep over Colgate, the Terriers currently own the second longest overall win streak at 22 games behind defending NCAA champion Oklahoma's 34 game win streak. The Eagles are hosting their last home game of the season after posting a 1-2 mark against Notre Dame over the weekend.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- With an RPI ranking of No. 50, BU is 9-4 against top-100 RPI squads with No. 89 Boston College next on the docket after most recently edging No. 65 UConn, 1-0, back on March 29.
- BU is 13-0 on the road since returning from its Spring Break trip to California, last claiming a 3-1 victory at UMass back on April 19.
- Junior Kayla Roncin ranks third nationally at 73 hits while batting a team-high .435 alongside 40 RBIs and 43 runs scored with classmate Lauren Keleher hitting .392.
- Senior Caitlin Coker (.344) leads the NCAA at nine triples while owning a team-high 44 runs scored with 37 RBIs.
- Junior Lauren Nett (.315) batted .643 last week with nine hits off 14 at-bats.
- Both senior Allison Boaz (18-4, 1.47 ERA) and freshman Kasey Ricard (17-2, 1.64 ERA) have gone the distance 11 times apiece and helped the Terriers earn 21 shutouts, second best mark nationally.
- Senior Lizzy Avery (7-1, 1.50 ERA) earned two wins on Saturday against Colgate, highlighted by a complete-game effort in the second contest.
- BU is batting .321 and holding opponents to .199 with a 57-21 advantage in doubles and 29-3 lead in triples alongside a 60-14 lead in stolen bases.
SCOUTING BOSTON COLLEGE
- BC owns an 89 RPI with nine top-100 victories, including over non-conference opponents South Florida (2x), UConn and Villanova, and three tightly-contested losses to current No. 7 RPI squad Duke (6-4, 3-0 and 4-2 / 9 inn.).
- The Eagles are only 4-11 at home but have wins over Notre Dame (RPI 40), UConn (RPI 65) and North Carolina (RPI 71 by a combined six runs.
- Nicole Giery is batting a team-high .311 with 10 doubles, four homers and 18 RBIs. Abigail Knight (.271) and Hannah Slike (.258) have combined for 10 homers and 44 RBIs.
- Abby Dunning (10-8, 2 SV, 3.44 ERA) has posted 131 strikeouts in 133.1 innings while holding opponents to .214 batting average. Susannah Anderson (7-14, 5.29 ERA) has tallied 85 strikeouts in 114.0 innings.
- Overall, BC is batting .240 and holding opponents to just .219 with a 42-41 edge in doubles and 24-22 lead in homers.
SERIES HISTORY
- BC leads the all-time series that dates back to 1988, 26-24, but the Terriers have won the last four meetings with three 3-2 decisions.
- Last year's matchup at BU saw Roncin deliver a walk-off two-out RBI single in the bottom of the 11th inning. Avery pitched the last five innings, totaling nine strikeouts against four hits allowed.
- In the last visit to BC, the Terriers pulled out a 3-2 victory in 2021 with two runs scoring in the top of the seventh on a fielding error.
