BOSTON - The Boston University field hockey team moved closer towards a Patriot League tournament berth with a 3-1 home victory over Colgate on Friday evening at New Balance Field.
Senior
Payton Anderson scored a pair of goals and fifth-year
Tess Csejka opened the scoring, helping the Terriers improve to 6-7 overall and 3-2 in Patriot League play. Junior
Megan Wetzel earned a pair of assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Junior Maddie Hudson got things started in the third minute of play when she picked off a pass at the top of the Colgate zone and penetrated the circle before sending the ball at goalkeeper Mackie Mann.
- Csejka, positioned in front of Mann, quickly pounced on the rebound and sent it to the boards at the 2:57 mark for an early lead.
- Colgate got an equalizer less than four minutes later as Katie Convey's took a pass from the right side before her shot from the middle of the circle got past BU netminder Kate Thomason at 6:51.
- BU would find itself back in the lead before the end of the first quarter when it converted on its second corner of the game.
- Following an insert by freshman Addison Jay and a setup from Wetzel, Anderson flung the ball to the left side of the net with 2:33 left in the opening quarter for her ninth goal of the season.
- Each team recorded only one shot in the second quarter and Thomason's stop with 1:13 left in the frame allowed the Terriers to take a 2-1 lead into the break.
- BU did not allow a shot in the third and scored on its lone corner of the quarter to establish a multi-goal lead.
- Once again, Anderson came through, placing a perfect drag flick high off the right post and in with assists from Wetzel and senior Katie Devine in the 37th minute.
- The Terriers continued to pressure the Raiders, forcing two incredible saves in the fourth quarter - one by Mann and one by a defender - before closing out the 3-1 victory.
