No. 23 Softball Doubles Way to 11-1 Run-Rule Victory over Stonehill
April 18, 2024 | Softball
BOSTON – Opening a four-game homestand, the No. 23 nationally-ranked Boston University softball team started off with senior Lauren Keleher's lead-off double and never looked back in a 11-1 victory over Stonehill Thursday afternoon.
With their ninth run-rule victory of the season, the Terriers improve to 37-4 and also extend their active home win streak to 25 contests, two behind NCAA leader Northwestern. BU recorded a pair of multi-RBI doubles and a triple to help knock off the Skyhawks (10-28) in the teams' first meeting in 35 years.
Reigning NFCA and Patriot League Pitcher of the Week Kasey Ricard (18-3) limited Stonehill to just two hits with the help of six strikeouts. Freshman Kylie Doherty delivered three RBIs, while senior Kayla Roncin and graduate student Allison Boaz had two RBIs apiece.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After graduate students Caitlin Coker and Lizzy Avery followed Keleher's double with back-to-back one-out walks in the bottom of the first, Doherty launched a bases clearing double to center for the 3-0 advantage.
- Sophomore Brooke Deppiesse added two more runs by tripling home Doherty and then scoring on a wild pitch.
- Deppiesse loaded the bases in the third after Avery and Doherty's one-out walks with a single to left.
- The Skyhawks earned a force out at home during the next at-bat but then gave up a two-RBI single to Boaz.
- Keleher followed sophomore Tyesha Williams' pinch-hit single with an RBI walk, and senior Kayla Roncin delivered a two-run double to push the lead to 10-0.
- Stonehill avoided the shutout in the fourth thanks to a hit-by-pitch and back-to-back singles before lining out into a double play.
- Coker added the game's final run by walking to first, advancing two bases on wild pitches and scoring on senior Raegan Kelly's RBI sac fly to right.
- The Terriers will remain home and host Bucknell in a Patriot League weekend series on April 20-21.
- Both Saturday's doubleheader and Sunday's single game are scheduled for a 12 p.m. start time.
