BOSTON — The Boston University men's ice hockey team officially tied with the Colgate Raiders, 2-2, on Saturday night after neither team could find the winner in overtime. BU would go on to win the shootout, 2-0.

In a back-and-forth battle, the Raiders (0-1-1) struck first. It was sophomore Cole Eiserman who provided the Terriers (2-0-1) with their first goal of the game at 5:25 in the second period, his fifth of the season, to make it a 1-1 game.

Then in the third period, Colgate again took a lead from BU, but freshman Jack Murtagh tied the contest at 2-2 with 15:25 left to play, marking his first collegiate goal.

With 44 seconds remaining, sophomore Sascha Boumedienne fired home a shot from the point, but Colgate successfully challenged for offsides, negating the play and sending the game into overtime.

Neither side could light the lamp in the overtime frame, officially marking the game as a tie, but a shootout ensued and Eiserman and junior Jack Harvey both slotted home goals for BU while sophomore goaltender Mikhail Yegorov stopped both of the Raiders' attempts.

Yegorov's night was once again steady, as he made 23 saves between the pipes, including key stops in the overtime period.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Raiders notched the first tally after creating an odd-man rush on a BU defensive zone turnover before Ryan Sullivan buried a cross-crease pass into the Terriers' net in the first period
Despite the goal, sophomore goaltender Mikhail Yegorov made a flurry of impressive first-period saves to keep it just a one-goal game.
Early in the second period freshman Jack Murtagh found himself in the slot after Brandon Svoboda dropped a pass for him, but the Colgate goaltender made a glove save to keep BU off the board.
The Terriers finally broke through at 5:25 in the second period as Eiserman caused a turnover in the offensive zone with a quick stick check, the puck found freshman Ryder Ritchie who dished it back over to Eiserman for an easy finish.
Colgate answered with a goal early in the third period to retake the lead, scoring just 1:48 into the frame off a point shot from Antonio Fernandez.
The Terriers had another response, however, coming in the form of Murtagh's first career goal. The freshman took advantage of a bouncing puck near the blue line and whizzed past the defense to make it 2-2.
With just 44 seconds remaining, Boumedienne received the puck at the blue line from Harvey and sent a slapshot past the goaltender, but the offsides challenge from Colgate kept the game tied.
BU took a tripping penalty 1:15 into overtime, giving Colgate a 4-on-3 advantage for two minutes, but the Terrier penalty kill remained strong, killing off the chance.
Once the game got to a shootout, Eiserman shimmied as he approached the goaltender, faked to the glove side and hurled the puck over his blocker.
Then, after Yegorov stuffed his Raider opponent, Harvey stayed low on his shot, beating the Colgate goaltender under his glove-side blocker.
On Colgate's second attempt, the Raiders' shooter hit the post, ending the game and awarding the shootout to BU.

GAME NOTES

Following the tie, the head-to-head record between these two teams is now 22-11-1.
Prior to Saturday night, BU had bested Colgate in the last six straight games, dating back to Nov. 9, 1991 and had scored four times in each of those wins.
Eiserman has now scored in the first three games of this season and has scored in five straight games dating back to last season.
He and Murtagh paced the Terriers in shots on goal with six each.
Sophomore Brandon Svoboda and freshman Jonathan Morello each earned an assist on Murtagh's goal — for Svoboda that's his first point of the season and it's Morello's second straight game with a point.
The penalty kill had its second spotless night of the season so far, stopping four chances from the Raiders. It is now 13-for-14 (.928) this year.
For the first time this season, the Terriers were held scoreless on the power play, going 0-for-5.
