Hutson Repeats as Hockey East Defender of the Month
December 3, 2025 | Men's Ice Hockey
AMESBURY, Mass. - Sophomore Cole Hutson of the Boston University men's ice hockey team earned his second consecutive Hockey East Defender of the Month award, the league announced on Wednesday.
Hutson is the first Hockey East defenseman to claim this honor in back-to-back months since his brother Lane did so in October and November 2022. Cole is also the first player to win this award multiple times in the same season since Lane thrice claimed the honor during the 2023-24 campaign.
The Chicago native shined for the Terriers in November, leading all Hockey East blue liners in goals (4), points (8) and shots on goal (35). Nationally, he paced defensemen with two game-winning goals (both in overtime of league games) and led all skaters regardless of position in time on ice (27:40).
Entering this weekend, Hutson leads all NCAA defensemen with 18 points on seven goals and 11 assists, including three game-winning goals. The National Defender of the Month for October, Hutson paces all skaters in time on ice (26:28), is a plus-8 and has blocked 18 shots this season. In just 54 career games, Hutson has totaled 66 points (21g, 45a); only Lane (68 points) has totaled more points in his first 54 games as an NCAA defenseman since at least 2004-05.
