BOSTON – The Boston University softball team will face its first ranked opponent of the season when it heads down to No. 24/21 South Carolina's Garnet & Black Invitational for a total of five games starting Friday at noon.
The Terriers will first face UNLV and then the host Gamecocks at 5 p.m. Saturday's doubleheader will feature the same two opponents at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively, and Sunday's matchup against Fordham will begin at 10 a.m.

TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU is competing at the Garnet & Black Invitational for the second consecutive season after posting a 2-2 record last season with wins over Minnesota and Michigan State alongside losses to South Carolina and Northwestern.
- After winning all five games at the FGCU Kickoff Classic to open the season, the Terriers went 2-2 at East Carolina's Pirate Clash with both losses coming against the host Pirates.
- Named the Patriot League's first Rookie of the Week this season, freshman Biz Baglieri leads BU at .412 with a triple and six RBIs, while sophomore Kylie Doherty (.320) owns a team-high 11 RBIs thanks in part to two homers and two triples.
- Junior Brooke Deppiesse (.333) has reached home plate a team-high eight times with seven RBIs and three doubles.
- Junior Kasey Ricard (4-1, 0.43 ERA) has totaled 22 strikeouts in 32.2 innings while holding opponents to a .159 batting average, while reigning PL Rookie of the Week Danika Nell (3-0, 1.73 ERA) has totaled 27 strikeouts in 24.1 innings.
- In nine games, BU is batting .277 and holding opponents to .171 with a 15-5 advantage in extra-base hits.
UNLV, 7-2 (Fri., 12 p.m. / Sat, 10:30 a.m.)
- The Rebels will be playing their first games away from after hosting a pair of tournaments. They're riding a five-game win streak with two wins over both Idaho State and Monmouth following two wins against Southern Utah and a split with Buffalo.
- Ariana Martinez is batting a team-high .533 with four doubles, three homers and 17 RBIs. Both Bri Williams (.421) and Sofia Morales (.406) are hitting over .400 as well.
- Jazmine Chavez (2-1, 2.72 ERA) has gone the distance twice in four starts with 10 strikeouts in 18.0 innings of work. Amelia Weber (2-1, 3.50 ERA) is holding opponents to a .238 batting average though has 11 walks against 13 strikeouts.
- Overall, the Rebels are batting .326 and holding teams to .259 with an 8-3 advantage in homers, while opponents lead in stolen bases, 15-5.
- The teams have only met once back in 2004 with UNLV winning, 3-0, on a neutral field in Tampa, Florida.
- The 2024 NCAA Regional finalist Gamecocks have yet to play away from home, earning one-run victories against Virginia (2x) and East Carolina. They've also claimed seven run-rule wins, including most recently an 11-3 (6) decision against North Carolina on Tuesday.
- Quincee Lilio is batting .586 with nine RBIs, 15 walks and only one strikeout for a .727 on-base percentage. Lexi winters (.357) leads South Carolina with two homers and 14 RBIs, while Karley Shelton (.294) has two homers, nine RBIs and 15 runs scored.
- Five pitchers have all started at least one game with Jori Heard (5-0, 0.25 ERA) collecting 33 strikeouts in 28.0 innings. Nealy Lamb (3-0, 1.21 ERA) has earned 23 strikeouts in 17.1 innings.
- The Gamecocks are batting .355 and holding opponents to .206 with 36-14 advantage in extra bases and 13-2 lead in stolen bases.
- South Carolina leads the all-time series, 3-0, after hitting a three-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the eighth inning last season at home.
- The Rams went 3-2 last weekend in Texas with wins against New Mexico, Stephen F. Austin and St. Thomas. During their first weekend at the Charleston Invitational, they recorded a split against the host Cougars and dropped a pair of one-run decisions to North Dakota State.
- Neleh Nogay is batting a team-high .324 with four RBIs and five stolen bases, while Mallory McClellan is hitting .308 with three RBIs.
- Five pitchers have seen action with four earning at least one start. Holly Beeman (2-2, 1.71 ERA) has tallied 17 strikeouts in 28.2 innings with one shutout.
- Fordham is batting .244 and holding teams to .270 with opponents owning 8-2 advantage in homers and 16-8 lead in stolen bases.
- BU has won all six meetings, last earning a 4-3 (10) victory in 2012 on a neutral field in Florida.
- BU will take next week off and return to action at the Winthrop Eagle Classic on March 7-9.
- The Terriers will face Western Carolina twice along with single-game clashes against Queens, Presbyterian and Winthrop.
