COLUMBIA, S.C. – Continuing the Garnet & Black Invitational, the Boston University softball team fell to UNLV and No. 24/21 South Carolina on Saturday afternoon.

The Rebels (8-4) and host Gamecocks (13-0) combined for 19 hits, including five for extra bases, and held the Terriers (8-5) to six singles for a pair of run-rule decisions (9-0, 8-0).

GAME 1: UNLV - 9, BU - 0 (5 inn.)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Terriers started the game with a hit-by-pitch and walk but then fouled out into a double play.
Junior Aimee Metz led off the second with a single, but UNLV was able to turn another double play on a hard liner to short.
The Rebels jumped on the score in the third against junior Kasey Ricard (4-3) with a one-out walk, single and two-RBI triple.
After earning an RBI ground in the top of the fourth against freshman Danika Nell, UNLV scored six runs off four hits, a walk and defensive error.
Junior Megan Coyle earned BU's fourth single in the fifth before the Rebels sealed the shuout win on a foul out and strikeout.

GAME 2: #24/21 South Carolina - 8, BU - 0 (6 inn.)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Gamecocks struck quickly in the first with a lead-off single, RBI double and double steal for the 2-0 advantage.
Junior Brooke Deppiesse earned BU's first single in the fourth, and Coyle added the Terriers' second in the sixth.
South Carolina threatened in the fourth on a single and two-out walk, but Nell (4-1) kept the deficit at two runs with a ground out to third.
The Gamecocks though pulled away in the sixth with six runs off six hits, including a pair of two-out RBI singles and walk-off two-RBI double, to claim their eighth straight run-rule victory.

UP NEXT

Blanked twice on the same day for the first time in five years, BU will conclude the Garnet & Black Invitational on Sunday (Feb. 23) against Fordham with a 10 a.m. start.
The Terriers will face the Rams for the first time in 13 seasons after earning a 4-3 (10) victory on a neutral field in Florida.
