Softball Continues Homestand With Doubleheader Against Stonehill Wednesday Afternoon

BOSTON – Continuing the non-conference slate, the Boston University softball team will host Stonehill Wednesday afternoon with the doubleheader set for a 2 p.m. first pitch.

The Terriers last week competed in three games against Power 4 schools, earning a 2-1 win at ACC member Boston College and then coming up short at home against SEC member Kentucky with a 4-3 (8) loss and 13-4 (5) defeat. BU will try to start a new home win streak after the extra-inning contest snapped the Terriers' 43-game home unbeaten streak.

TERRIER TIDBITS

BU is 5-2 at home this season, posting a doubleheader sweep against Yale (8-2, 8-0) and series sweep against Colgate (6-0, 11-0, 7-5) back in March.
Named Patriot League Player of the Week twice this season, junior Brooke Deppiesse leads the Terriers batting .424 with 12 doubles and six triples alongside five homers. She also owns 15 walks for a .490 on-base percentage.
Sophomore Kylie Doherty earned her first career PL Player of the Week award after hitting a combined 5-for-8 (.625) with five walks against BC and UK. She is currently batting .381 with a team-high 10 homers.
Junior Megan Coyle (.314) currently edges Doherty in RBIs, 38-37, for the team lead while adding nine doubles.
In the circle, junior Kasey Ricard (18-8, 2.00 ERA) has pitched the second most innings nationally at 174.2, totaling 160 strikeouts against 43 walks.
Freshmen Danika Nell (4-1, 3.82 ERA) and Ava Johnson (3-1, 3.08 ERA) have combined for 64 strikeouts in 65.1 innings.
Overall, the Terriers are batting .309 and are holding opponents to .231 with 50-44 advantage in doubles and 26-20 lead in homers.

SCOUTING STONEHILL

The Skyhawks are 3-14 this season in true road games with wins at Ohio (4-3), Furman (9-6) and Bellarmine (4-2). They had one-run losses at Saint Francis and Brown.
Stonehill is 1-1 against the Patriot League following a home split against Holy Cross back on March 26 with a 11-8 win and 8-4 loss.
Isabella Therrien is batting a team-high .356 with 20 runs scored and is tied alongside Piper Hofmann (.286) at three homers and 14 RBIs, while Harper Sullivan (.268) owns a team-high 19 RBIs.
Six pitchers have earned at least two starts with Harper Sullivan (4-3, 4.15 ERA) owning 21 strikeouts in 59.0 innings. Alex Sciarretto (1-6, 7.49 ERA) owns a team-high 27 strikeouts in 38.1 innings.
Stonehill is batting .255 as a team and is holding opponents to .335 with opponents posting 106-43 advantage in extra-base hits.

SERIES HISTORY

Stonehill leads the all-time series, 4-2, after BU posted a 11-1 (5) victory at home in 2024 with Ricard tallying six strikeouts against two hits allowed.
The teams met for the first time in 34 years last spring and will be holding the first DH at BU since 1989 when they recorded a split (6-3, 3-11).

LOOKING AHEAD

BU will return to conference play by hosting Army West Point in a three-game weekend series with Saturday's DH and Sunday's single game contest both set for 12 p.m.
The Terriers are riding a 14-game win streak with seven of the contests decided by 1-2 runs apiece.
Last season, BU won the Patriot League tournament opener, 2-0.
