GAME 1: BU - 4, Army - 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the bottom of the first after Ricard ended the top half with a strikeout, junior Brooke Deppiesse reached first on a hit-by-pitch, moved to second on classmate Megan Coyle's single to left and moved to third on a grounder to help set up freshman Camryn Lyons' two-out, two-RBI single down the right field line for the 2-0 advantage.
- The Terriers had two in scoring position in the second with zero outs, but Army applied the tag at home and followed with a pair of swinging strikeouts.
- Army scored its lone run an inning later by singling to center with one out and taking advantage of a misplayed sac bunt with an RBI sac fly to right.
- The Black Knights threatened again in the fourth with two runners in scoring position after a lead-off single and errant BU throw but left third too early during a fly out to right to keep the score at 2-1.
- BU responded to the fortunate break in the bottom half with two runs, as freshman Addie Lucier earned a lead-off walk and scored on sophomore Kyomi Apalit's RBI triple that was followed by sophomore Livia Christopher's RBI single.
- The Terriers tried to pull away by loading the bases with one out, but struck out and grounded out to third.
- Army had two in scoring position on a one-out double and infield single in the top of the sixth, but Ricard ended the threat with a strikeout and line out to second.
- Trying to mount a late rally in the seventh, the Black Knights had two in scoring position on a bunt single and BU error before Ricard sealed the win on a ground out and strikeout.
- In the rematch, the Black Knights started off with a pair of singles and eventually grabbed a 2-0 lead on RBI sac fly and RBI grounder against freshman Ava Johnson (4-2).
- The Terriers had two in scoring position with two outs like the first game after Deppiesse's walk and freshman Kieren McHugh's single, but Katelyn Flanders (8-3) earned a ground out to keep the two-run lead.
- Freshman Danika Nell ended the first inning with a strikeout in relief for Johnson and quickly retired the side in the second but ran into trouble during the third with Army scoring two runs off a pair of singles, two walks and a hit-by-pitch.
- Deppiesse helped put BU on the scoreboard by singling to center with one out and scoring on McHugh's RBI single.
- After scoring a run in response in the fourth on three hits against junior Haley Ganino, the Black Knights put the game away during the fifth with five runs off six hits and two BU errors.
- Junior Olivia DeLong saw her first career action in the circle for the Terriers and earned the final two outs, highlighted by her catching a liner directed toward her.
- The Terriers quickly went down in the bottom half for the run-rule loss.
- With just seven conference games remaining, the two teams will meet one last time on Sunday (April 20) at 12 p.m. for the top spot in the PL standings.
- The Black Knights will try to win their first series against BU since 2016 after their 10 runs in game two matched the amount scored over the previous 10 meetings.
