Softball Strikes Late to Claim 2-1 Victory at Boston College
April 9, 2025 | Softball
BRIGHTON, Mass. – Highlighted by a late pair of clutch hits and junior Kasey Ricard's impressive pitching performance, the Boston University softball team posted a 2-1 victory at Boston College Wednesday afternoon.
With their eighth straight victory over the Eagles (17-19), the Terriers improve to 26-11 and help 10th-year head coach Ashley Waters earn win No. 350. BU also improved to 2-4 in games decided by one run this season.
Following her 3-0 shutout win back on Feb. 7 down in Florida, Ricard limited BC in the rematch to just four hits with the help of four strikeouts, and classmate Megan Coyle led the offense batting a perfect 3-for-3 with a two-out game-tying RBI double in the fifth. Sophomore Kylie Doherty delivered a sixth-inning RBI triple in the first meeting for insurance and stepped up big yet again with the go-ahead solo homer in the top of the seventh.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- BU stranded a total of seven Terriers on base, starting with two in the top of the first following junior Brooke Deppiesse's one-out walk and Coyle's two-out single after Kelly Colleran (8-9) ended the threat on a strikeout.
- In the bottom half, the Eagles earned a lead-off walk and had runners at the corners with zero outs thanks to BU mishandling a sac bunt attempt.
- After Ricard allowed an unearned run on an RBI sac fly, she kept the deficit at just one run with a foul out and swinging strikeout.
- Freshmen Addie Lucier and Camryn Lyons led off the second with back-to-back singles, but Colleran maintained the one-run lead with an infield pop up off a sac bunt attempt and a 2-3-4 double play ground out.
- The Eagles tried to extend the lead with a lead-off single and successful sac bunt before Ricard earned a line out and pop up to first.
- As the teams continued to have trouble in stringing along hits together, Doherty started the fifth with a single and was replaced by sophomore Libby Walsh following a force out at second on a grounder.
- Coyle then blasted a 1-0 pitch to left center to tie the game, 1-1, on her two-out RBI double.
- Colleran retired the next four Terriers to keep the game tied entering the seventh and started off with her sixth strikeout.
- Doherty though grabbed the lead by launching a 3-1 pitch directly toward center for the 2-1 advantage.
- Trying to mount a late rally of their own, BC earned a two-out single before flying out to left.
- BU is currently scheduled to host Kentucky and Sacred Heart in a round-robin setup for Saturday (April 12) with the Wildcats and Pioneers starting things off at 10 a.m.
- The Terriers will first meet UK at 12:30 p.m. and then SHU at 3 p.m. They will then face the SEC's Wildcats a second time on Sunday (April 13) at 12 p.m.
- Fans are encouraged to check the website for the possibility of changes in the schedule, as the forecast currently shows inclement weather impacting the region on Saturday.
