Softball Set to Open PL Tournament With Lafayette Thursday

BOSTON – Riding a nine-game win streak. the three-time defending Patriot League tournament champion and top-seeded Boston University softball team will host No. 2 Colgate, No. 3 Army West Point and No. 4 Lafayette with the double-elimination event scheduled to take place Thursday (May 7) - Saturday (May 9).
The Terriers will start off against the Leopards at 12 p.m. on Thursday, and the Raiders will follow up against the Black Knights at 2:30 p.m.

CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT HISTORY
- Looking to four-peat for the first time ever, BU is 74-30 (.712) overall in conference tournaments, having won 17 titles and finish runner-up eight times.
- BU is 28-4 (.875) all-time in the Patriot League tournament with 3-0 sweeps in 2014, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2023, 2024 and 2025. The Terriers won the first two games in 2017 before dropping a pair of one-run decisions at Lehigh in the championship round and then suffered the same fate at home in 2022 with two losses to the Mountain Hawks.
- The Terriers are making their 15th overall appearance as the No. 1 seed and seventh in the Patriot League. They own a 35-11 (.761) mark in the slot with five America East titles and five PL titles.
- BU returns 11 of the 13 Terriers who saw action in last year's 3-2 title victory at host Army West Point.
- Led by six-time PL Coach of the Year Ashley Waters, BU earned 36+ victories with 14+ conference wins for the eighth straight season.
- BU swept Colgate (away), Lafayette (away), Bucknell (home) and Holy Cross (home) while also posting 2-1 records against Army West Point (away) and Lehigh (home). The Terriers though had a tightly-contested 8-7 win against the Leopards and 5-3 victory over the Raiders.
- BU claimed five of the six major PL year-end awards with now three-time PL Pitcher of the Year Kasey Ricard (30-6, 2.81 ERA) posting a 12-1 record and 2.95 ERA against conference opponents. She leads the nation with both 30 victories and 13 shutouts while totaling 215 strikeouts in 222.0 innings.
- Senior pitcher Haley Ganino joined Ricard in earning Academic All-PL honors by tallying an 8-2 record and 3.71 ERA with 27 strikeouts in 68.0 innings.
- At the plate, junior and 2026 PL Player of the Year Kylie Doherty is batting a team-high .401 with 83 RBIs, second most nationally, and 24 homers, fifth most at the conclusion of the regular season. Two-time PL Defensive Player of the Year and senior Brooke Deppiesse is second on the team hitting .385 with 11 doubles and 62 runs scored, three ahead of Doherty.
- Junior designated player Sophie Naivar (.375), sophomore Camryn Lyons (.362), junior Kyomi Apalit (.352), senior Megan Coyle (.343) and junior Livia Christopher (.306) all earned All-PL Second Team accolades.
- The Terriers are batting a program-best .339 and holding opponents to .240 with an 86-48 advantage in doubles and 60-35 lead in homers. They've also posted a 246-129 advantage in walks earned alongside a .970 fielding percentage against opponents' .955 fielding percentage.
- Colgate (27-24, 13-5 PL) earned a top-two seed for the first time since winning the PL regular season title in 2011. Seeking its first NCAA bid since 2007, the Raiders are batting .280 and holding opponents to .302 with an impressive 83-38 advantage in homers.
- Colgate has five All-PL honorees, including first team honorees in Nora Megenity (.399, 21 HRs, 44 RBIs), Lily Haluska (.331, 14 HRs, 53 RBIs) and Kayla Martin (.353, 10 HRs, 42 RBIs). Marina Taveras (.359, 14 HRs, 44 RBIs) earned PL Rookie of the Year accolades and joined pitcher Kelcie McGraw (14-11, 4.03 ERA) in landing All-PL Second Team recognition with McGraw tallying 110 strikeouts in 132.0 innings of work.
- 2025 PL regular season champion Army West Point (32-23, 12-6 PL) will seek its first automatic NCAA berth since 2013. Overall, the Black Knights are batting .294 and holding opponents to .233 with a 67-45 advantage in doubles
- Army tied BU with eight All-PL honorees with a conference-high five Black Knights earning a slot on the first team. 2025 PL Player of the Year Ashton White is batting .377 with team-high 11 homers and 50 RBIs, while Hannah Laub (.406) owns six homers and 23 walks for .504 on-base percentage. Both All-PL pitchers Amanda Eaglin (12-8, 2.44 ERA) and Breanna Izzo (12-7, 3.27 ERA) have combined for 179 strikeouts in 242.2 innings of work.
- Lafayette (16-34, 7-11 PL) is making its first PL tournament appearance since 2012 and will try to earn the program's first automatic NCAA bid.
- All-PL honoree Kylee Sweet leads the Leopards batting .348 with four homers and 23 RBIs. Caroline Hall (.320) is tied with Katie Harrington (.276) at six homers apiece, and the duo have combined for 50 RBIs. In the circle, The Leopards have six players pitching at least 28 innings of work with Sophia Alvarez-Backus (3-9, 5.93 ERA) totaling 22 strikeouts in 71.1 innings.
