Working with the Terrier goalkeepers in 2016, and helped Christian Carson-Banister have another terrific season. Under Fossner's tutelage, Carson-Banister led the Patriot League with an average of 10.73 saves per game and was also among the top 25 goalies in the country in both save percentage (.533) and goals-against average (9.69).
Fossner brought four seasons of Division I coaching experience to the Terriers. He came to Boston after spending the past two seasons as the defensive coordinator at his alma mater, Delaware. Fossner developed a top-20 defense during the 2014 season. He also coached the goaltenders, including Brett Anton, who led the Colonial Athletic Association with a .620 save percentage last season. Delaware boasted two All-CAA players and a CAA All-Rookie Team selection that were mentored by Fossner. Additionally, Fossner helped with recruiting and many of the day-to-day operations.
Prior to his time at Delaware, Fossner was a volunteer assistant at Rutgers for two seasons, where he specialized in goalie instruction and also worked with faceoff specialist Joe Nardella, who finished the 2013 campaign fifth in the nation in faceoff percentage (.622).
A native of Niskayuna, New York, Fossner was a three-year starter at Delaware and graduated in 2011 as one of the top goalkeepers in Blue Hen history. He captained the squad for three seasons, and finished second in the country in saves (184) in 2009. Delaware appeared in two NCAA Tournaments with Fossner between the pipes, and Fossner was also the 2011 USILA North-South All-Star Game MVP.
