Freshmen Lead Women's Soccer Over Delaware, 2-0
October 24, 1999 | Women's Soccer
NEWARK, Del. -- Freshmen Suzanne Hudak (Harleysville, PA) and Allison Merkle (Baltimore, MD) each scored a goal, while classmate Tiffany Chag (Manchester, NH) chipped in with an assist to account for the Terriers' scoring in a 2-0 blanking over host University of Delaware.
The win improved B.U.'s overall record to 9-6-0 while they are 5-1-0 in America East action, as the Terriers maintained their second-place spot in the league standings.
The game was scoreless through the first 37:52 of play before Hudak scored off a feed from Chag. For Hudak, who was playing in her 13th game of the season but just the sixth time she was in the starting lineup, it was her third goal of the season.
The Terriers clung on to the 1-0 lead until the 64:59 mark of the game when Merkle found the open net from about 25 yards out. A starter in all 15 games this year, Merkle tallied her fourth goal of the season.
As has been the case all season, Terrier coach Nancy Feldman alternated her two goalkeepers. Senior Beth Weisman (Potomac, MD) started the game, played the first half, had two saves, and earned the win to improve her record to 4-2-0.
Senior Meghan Lynch (Andover, MA) played the second half in goal for the Terriers, and had 0 saves.
For Weisman and Lynch, it marked their fourth combined shutout of the season. Earlier, the pair blanked Syracuse, 2-0, New Hampshire, 2-0, and Yale, 1-0.
