Junior Deidre Enos scored three goals, while Allison Merkle chipped in with a pair to lead the Terrier women's soccer team to a 7-4 win over the University of Rhode Island in Kingston, RI on Sunday (September 19th).

The win evened the Terriers' record to 3-3, as the goal total equaled what the women had scored in their first five games combined. Coupled with the 1-0 double overtime loss at Rutgers on Friday, it enabled the Terriers to split their weekend series on the road. For Rhode Island, which had been ranked in the region, suffered only its second loss in seven decisions this season.

It appeared it would be a one-sided contest as the Terriers took a 5-1 lead at the end of the first half. A pair of goals by Merkle, and single goals by Enos, Suzanne Finn, and Suzanne Hudak accounted for B.U.'s goals. Only a goal by Rhode Island's Shannon Kittelson prevented the Terriers from blanking the Rams through the opening 45 minutes of action.

Rhode Island came back in the second half, though, to outscore the Terriers, 3-2, as both B.U. goals were scored by Enos, who brought her season total to 6 and career total to 21.

One of the bright spots of the game for the Terriers was the play of a couple of freshmen who played prominent roles in the offense. Allison Merkle, who has started all six games for the Terriers this year, scored her first collegiate goals. In the meantime, Suzanne Hudak, who has played in four of the team's six games, scored what proved to be the game-winning goal and had a pair of assists for the first points of her collegiate career.

Meghan Lynch played the entire game in net for the Terriers. She had 4 saves, and allowed the 4 goals, as she improved her season record to 3-2-0.

B.U., which plays seven of its first eight games this year on the road, will travel to New Hampshire on Friday and Maine on Sunday to open the America East portion of their schedule.
