Koller's Two Goals Lead Terriers Past Vermont, 3-1
November 13, 2005 | Women's Ice Hockey
BOSTON ??? Freshman Laurel Koller (St. Paul, Minn.) tallied a pair of goals to lead the Boston University women's ice hockey team to a 3-1 victory over the University of Vermont on Sunday afternoon at Walter Brown Arena. The win ended a four-game skid by the Terriers while ending Vermont???s two-game winning streak. BU found itself down 1-0 midway through the second period, but junior Cara Hendry (Calgary, Alta.) and Koller scored within a minute of each other to take the lead for good.
???It was nice to protect the home ice today,??? said Head Coach Brian Durocher. ???It wasn???t a very wide open game. Vermont played it pretty close to the vest and we never really found our rhythm.
The Catamounts got on the board first when Hilary Johnson knocked in a rebound at 5:50 of the second period to give UVM a 1-0 lead. Assisting on the play was Kristi Anderson.
The Terriers struck back at 10:47 of the second when Hendry scored to even the game at 1. Erin Seman (Ramsey, Minn.) dumped the puck low from the right boards. Gina Kearns (Norwood, Pa.) took the pass and fed a perfect one timer to a streaking Hendry in the slot.
Koller gave BU a 2-1 lead with a power-play goal less than a minute later when she knocked in a rebound off a shot by Stephanie Armstrong (Stoneham, Mass.). Nicki Wiart (Queensbury, N.Y.) fed a pass to Armstrong whose shot was saved by Shivaun Seigl. Koller picked up the rebound at the top right of the crease and buried it home.
The Terriers scored a third goal at 15:17 of the second period when Koller blasted a shot that Seigl couldn???t handle with the blocker. Amanda Shaw (St. Thomas, Ont.) sent a pass to Kearns who fed to Koller down low. Koller circled from right to left around the net and took a hard shot from the right side of the crease.
The Terriers head next to Providence on Saturday, Nov. 19, for their first meeting with Providence College.
