Yuhn Receives Leila Saad Award
May 27, 2026 | Women's Ice Hockey
BOSTON – Senior Clara Yuhn of the Boston University women's ice hockey team received the Leila Saad Award over commencement weekend. The honor is given to one student each year who is being inducted into the Scarlet Key Honor Society and Yuhn is the first student-athlete to receive the award.
This award honors retired Assistant Dean of Students Leila Saad, whose contributions to university life and whose generosity of spirit touched countless students' lives during her tenure. Leila began her career at Boston University in 1977 and forged a campus-wide reputation for her remarkable exuberance and creative community building events. She held several roles at BU, including founding director of the University Resource Center – now called the Educational Resource Center; faculty member at the College of Communication, teaching courses like "Acting for the Non-Theater Major"; and long-serving advisor to Stage Troupe. Leila retired from BU in 2001 and moved to Cairo, Egypt, where she was born and raised.
Leila was fiercely dedicated to BU students. She has been fittingly described as "a whirlwind of excitement and enthusiasm," "a (be)loved woman here at the University," "the czar of students" and "Leila the irreplaceable." She received an Honorary Scarlet Key Award in 1997.
The award celebrates Leila's legacy by honoring an inductee for their leadership, commitment and dedication to bettering the BU community through action. It is said the award goes to the inductee who may be considered the "most scarlet of Scarlet Key."
