October 17, 2006 | Women's Ice Hockey
BOSTON - After recording four points in a weekend sweep of RPI, including both game-winning goals, sophomore Erin Seman (Ramsey, Minn.) was named the USCHO Division I Offensive Player of the Week. The national honor follows Seman's selection as the Hockey East TPS Hockey Player of the Week.
The Terriers posted a 3-2 overtime victory against the Engineers on Friday with Seman having a hand in all three goals. Seman assisted on the opening goal, as well as the game-tying goal. Halfway through overtime, Seman took a pass right in front of the crease from Genevieve Laing and Sarah Appleton, and beat goaltender Ashley Mayr. The win was the first overtime triumph for the women’s ice hockey program.
Rensselaer and BU met up Saturday afternoon for another close game. The teams were tied at a goal apiece as the second period began to wind down. With less than three minutes left, RPI cleared the puck, giving the Terriers a chance to set up a play from deep within their own zone. The puck found its way to a waiting Seman, who blasted the puck high over Mayr’s left shoulder to record the game-winning goal for the second night in a row and help the Terriers complete the sweep with a 2-1 victory.
Seman has recorded five points in three games (1.67 PPG) and leads the team in shot percentage (3 goals/7 shots = .429). She also shares the lead among Hockey East players in game-winning goals (2).
The weekend sweep increased BU’s program-record win streak to four games and the Terriers will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 21, when it welcomes Vermont to Walter Brown Arena to kick off a weekend series. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
