October 24, 2006 | Women's Ice Hockey
BOSTON- After shutting out Vermont, 3-0, in her collegiate debut, freshman Melissa Haber has been named the Hockey East Mission Hockey Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday. On Sunday at Walter Brown Arena, the Toronto, Ont., native recorded 23 saves in the game, including a third-period offensive attack during which she stopped 17 shots, to help her team improve to 6-0-0 (2-0-0 HE) on the year.
Haber helped BU remain stellar on the penalty kill, holding the Catamounts 0-for-8 on the day. The Terriers’ 4-0 decision represented their second shutout in as many days, as the team blanked Vermont, 3-0, on Saturday. Haber spent last year playing for Loretto Abbey Catholic Secondary School, where she was named team MVP all four years.
Boston University is riding a six game winning streak and remains one of four teams in the country to have a perfect record so far in the 2006-07 campaign. The Terriers have the distinction of being the only unranked team with a flawless record.
The back-to-back shutouts set a program record for the Terriers, who travel to New Hampshire on Sunday, Oct. 29 to face the second-ranked Wildcats. Game time is slated for 2:00 p.m. at Whittemore Center.
