Bloemers Earns Hockey East Rookie of the Week Honors

BOSTON - Freshman Jonnie Bloemers (Brooklyn Center, Minn.) earned Hockey East Mission Hockey Rookie of the Week Honors after a three-point weekend, as announced by the league on Monday.

On Saturday against Providence, Bloemers registered her first multiple-point game, assisting on BU’s second goal of the game to record her first assist and give her team the 2-0 lead. Providence scored four unanswered goals to take the 4-2 lead, but Bloemers put the Terriers within one at 12:03 of the third period when she notched her second goal on the year. Despite her effort, BU fell to Providence, 5-3.

Bloemers added another point on Sunday afternoon at Connecticut, assisting on senior Cara Hendry’s power-play goal to give her team the 2-1 lead. The Huskies went on to tie the game, 2-2.

In addition to Bloemers, classmate Melissa Haber (Toronto, Ont.) was named to the HE Honor Roll after earning her first back-to-back starts and making 51 saves on the weekend.

With the three-point weekend, Bloemers is now tied for eighth-place on the team for points. She will look to extend her point streak to three games when BU faces off against Union College on Saturday, Nov. 25 at 2 p.m.
