Orono, Maine - The Boston University women's ice hockey team looks to end a three-game skid while visiting Maine on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. It will be the Terriers' first away game in almost a month, as the team went 2-4-1 on a seven-game home stand.
The Terriers (2-8-2, 0-2-0 HE) are looking for their first Hockey East victory of the season and hope to build upon last season's success against Maine (1-11-1, 0-3-1 HE). During the 2006-07 season, Boston University compiled a 2-1-0 record against the Black Bears, outscoring the conference rivals, 7-3. Last year's results were an improvement over the 2005-06 season, when the Terriers posted a 1-2-0 record against Maine, including a 7-0 BU loss.
The Black Bears are struggling considerably this season, however, heading into Tuesday's game with a 12-game winless streak after coming out on top of Sacred Heart in the season opener. Maine has been outscored 42-18, despite the impressive play of junior goaltender Genevieve Turgeon. Turgeon has been named the Hockey East defensive player of the week three times and is third in the league in save percentage (.910), behind BU junior Allyse Wilcox (.932), who holds the top spot.
BU lost its last game 3-1 to St. Cloud State Saturday, after losing 5-0 the night before to SCSU. On Saturday, the Terriers held the Huskies scoreless for more than 52 minutes before surrendering a short handed goal for the equalizer. SCSU then tacked on another score and an empty-netter to leave Walter Brown Arena with two wins.
BU remains winless in Hockey East, after dropping two decisions to New Hampshire, a 3-1 decision at UNH on Oct. 21 and a 4-1 game at BU on Nov. 1.
Following Tuesday's game, the Terriers take a short break before returning to action at New Hampshire on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 2:00 p.m.
