BOSTON - Coming off its first victory of the season, the Boston University women's ice hockey team will face Quinnipiac on Wednesday at Walter Brown Arena. It will be the third meeting between the two teams in a series that the Terriers lead 1-1-0. The Boston University is in the midst of a seven-game home stand, having gone 1-1-1 in the first three games.
Boston University heads into the game on the tail of a 6-0 victory over Union Saturday. The game was highlighted by a Terrier five-goal second period and a two-goal performance by junior co-captain Sarah Russell. Junior Caroline Bourdeau, senior Stephanie Armstrong, and sophomores Melissa Anderson and Sarah Appleton also got in on the scoring, notching one goal apiece. Both sophomore Jonnie Bloemers and freshman Jillian Kirchner added in two assists each. The five-goal second period set a record for the most goals in a single period, eclipsing the former mark of four goals, which was last achieved in the second period on Dec. 2, 2006, against Providence. The team also set a new single-game record by taking 50 shots on goal, overtaking the 47 shots the Terriers took on Nov. 25, 2006, also against Union.
The Bobcats are coming off an 8-1 loss at Dartmouth on Saturday. Quinnipiac was outshot 46-9 by the Big Green, who remains undefeated. Freshman Kelley Davies scored the Bobcats' lone goal, which came in the third period.
BU last faced Quinnipiac on Nov. 29, 2006, at Northford Ice Pavilion, with the Terriers coming out on top of a 4-3 decision. Then-sophomore Allyse Wilcox saved 40 shots in goal while former captain Cara Hendry scored two goals. Anderson had a goal and an assist in the game while then-sophomore Erin Seman notched two assists. Co-captain Gina Kearns, then a sophomore, scored the game-winning goal with 5:13 left in the game.
The Terriers first overtime game as a varsity program was against Quinnipiac on Oct. 11, 2005, a 2-2 decision. It was the team's second game after becoming a varsity program. After then-freshmen Nicki Wiart and Caroline Bourdeau staked BU to a 2-1 lead, the team surrendered the game-tying goal midway through the second period.
Following the game, the Terriers will face Princeton at Walter Brown Arena on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 3:00 p.m.
