WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Junior Allyse Wilcox has been named the Hockey East Pure Hockey Defensive Player of the Week, as was announced by the league office Monday. Wilcox amassed 62 saves over the weekend, including a 41-save performance against first-ranked New Hampshire Saturday and a shutout in Boston University's 3-0 victory over Vermont Sunday.
The Grand Blanc, Mich., native has started 10 games in goal for the Terriers this season, posting a 4-5-1 record. Wilcox's .928 save percentage is good for seventh in the country, while her 1.84 goals against ranks her ninth. She has started eight of the team's last nine games, earning all four of BU's wins, and is the only Terrier goaltender with a shutout this season.
Wilcox's sparkling performance Sunday gave the Terriers their second conference win of the year, coming on the heels of a 41-save game against the Wildcats in BU's 3-2 overtime loss Saturday afternoon. UNH, which averages almost 4 goals per game, scored the game-winner with only three seconds remaining in overtime. The Terriers held the Wildcats scoreless in the first period, with Wilcox saving 15 shots on goal.
Wilcox and the BU women's ice hockey team hosts Boston College for the first of four match-ups between the cross-town rivals Thursday at 7:00 p.m., at Walter Brown Arena.
