The No. 7 Boston University women's ice hockey team will relocate to Agganis Arena for the front end of a home-and-home series with conference foe Providence on Saturday, Nov. 14 and Sunday Nov. 15. The Terriers won the first matchup between the teams this season, taking a 3-1 win on the road against the Friars, their first ever win at Schneider Arena.
The Terriers are coming off their first shutout and second conference win of the season, blanking Vermont 4-0 at Walter Brown Arena last Wednesday. Four different BU players scored goals in the win and Melissa Haber needed just 16 stops to record her sixth career shutout. Senior Melissa Anderson netted the fourth goal of the game, giving her 103 points on her career which is a new program record. Freshman Jill Cardella started the scoring for the Terriers against the Catamounts, and has a four-game point streak heading into the Saturday matchup with Providence.
With two assists against the Catamounts, Jenelle Kohanchuk upped her team-leading point total to 12 on the season and still holds the team lead with nine goals. Cardella is a close second in both goals (7) and points (10) and is tied with Anderson (10 points) who has registered a team-high eight assists on the year. Haber collected her fourth win of the season against Vermont and enters the Providence game with a 2.61 goals-against average and .897 save percentage.
Since the 3-1 loss to the Terriers, the Friars have skated to ties in three straight games, recording draws against Connecticut, Maine and Northeastern. Goalie Genevieve Lacasse recorded 29 saves against the UConn Huskies, 26 against the Black Bears and 28 against the Northeastern Huskies to help the Friars gain key conference points.
In their last game, a 1-1 tie against Northeastern, the Friars escaped with an extra league point thanks to an exciting shootout win. It took 26 skaters to decide the shootout, with Providence's Christie Jensen netting the final score to give the Friars a shootout win.
Ashley Cottrell leads the Friars in both points (11) and goals (7) as the only Friar with double-digit points so far this season. Jessica Cohen (3g, 4a) is second on the team with seven points while Alyse Ruff paces the team with five assist on the year. Lacasse has been solid in net for the Friars, boasting a 1.67 goals-against average and .924 save percentage heading into the weekend matchup with the Terriers.
After this weekend, the Terriers head down Commonwealth Ave., to take on Boston College on Wednesday, Nov. 18 in a 7 p.m. game. The Eagles won the first matchup this season, 2-1, at Walter Brown on Nov. 2.
