WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Five members of the Boston University women's ice hockey roster have been named to the Hockey East All-Star team, the league announced Thursday. Melissa Anderson, Kasey Boucher, Lauren Cherewyk, Jenelle Kohanchuk and Tara Watchorn have all been selected to the squad, which will face off against the U.S. Women's National Team on Sunday, Nov. 22 at 1 p.m., at the Whittemore Center in Durham, N.H. With five selections to the team, BU has the most participants of any Hockey East school.
Kohanchuk leads the Terriers in points (9) and goals (8) this season, and was recently named runner-up for Hockey East Player of the Month honors. With an assist against Boston College, Anderson collected her 100th-career point, making her one of just three active league players with 100 career points or more. Cherewyk has logged two goals and four assists on the season and has scored a point in five of BU's nine games this year.
Boucher is BU's top blueliner, contributing two goals and three assists on the year, and Watchorn is close behind with four points on a goal and three assists.
Boston College head coach Katie King will assume head coaching responsibilities for the All-Star team, and will have Jaime Totten (UConn), Linda Lundrigan (Northeastern), and Meredith Roth (Providence) as assistants.
The Hockey East All-Stars will take on the 2010 U.S. Women's National Team on Sunday, Nov. 22, at 1 p.m., at UNH's Whittemore Center, as part of Team USA's 2009 Qwest Tour. The tour is designed to pit Team USA against elite-level competition in preparation for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, B.C.
