
Terriers Fall to Catamounts in Overtime, 2-1

BURLINGTON, Vt. - Senior Melissa Anderson scored a goal in her fourth consecutive contest, but a Vermont goal 42 seconds into overtime gave the hosts the win as the Boston University women's ice hockey team fell to the Catamounts 2-1 at Gutterson Fieldhouse on Friday night. The loss puts the Terriers at 9-7-8 on the year and 5-5-3-2 in conference play while Vermont improves to 7-16-1 overall and 2-9-1-0 in Hockey East action.
After an uneventful first period, the physicality picked up into the second stanza as the two teams combined for eight penalties. The Catamounts struck first at the 4:16 mark of the second period as Jackie Thode netted her first goal of the season. Jul Sifers and Melanie Greene recorded assists on the play as both players notched their first helper of the season.
BU struck back in the back half of the period as Anderson notched an unassisted tally with 3:07 left to play in the period. BU outshot UVM 8-7 in the final stanza, but the game was forced into overtime as neither team could find the back of the net.
A roughing penalty on BU with eight seconds left in regulation proved costly as the Catamounts took advantage of the overtime power-play. Passes from Saleah Morrison and Emily Walsh found an open Peggy Wakeham who potted the game-winner just 42 seconds into the extra period.
BU goalie Melissa Haber stopped 16 shots in the loss while counterpart Kristen Olychuck made 23 saves on the night.
The Terriers and Catamounts will play the final game in the season series tomorrow afternoon in a 4 p.m. showdown.
