WAKEFIELD, Mass. - After scoring the game-winning goal in the Boston University women's ice hockey team's playoff win over Boston College, junior winger Lauren Cherewyk has been named the Women's Hockey East Pure Hockey Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday. Cherewyk is the fourth Terrier to earn the league's top weekly honor this season.
Cherewyk scored a goal in four-on-four action late in the second period to break a 1-1 tie, then assisted on freshman Jill Cardella's third-period tally to help the Terriers to a 3-1 win over the Eagles in the first round of the Hockey East tournament on Sunday at Walter Brown Arena.
Cherewyk now ranks second among the Terriers in scoring with 28 points this season (12g, 16a). The St. Albert, Alta., native has now netted five game-winning goals this season and 10 in her career, one shy of matching the BU record on both counts.
Cherewyk and the Terriers face fifth-ranked New Hampshire in the Hockey East semifinals on Saturday (March 6) at 3 p.m. in Providence, R.I.
